EVERBUILD 503 Premium SBR Bond is a water-resistant bonding agent and admixture designed for areas exposed to humidity, dampness, and water contact. It enhances the water resistance, durability, and flexibility of cement mixtures by forming a reinforcing polymer, making it ideal for renderings and floor screeds. The product includes anti-foam to control the density of cementitious mixes and offers excellent adhesion to various substrates such as dense concrete, steel, and tiles. Additionally, it improves frost resistance, toughness, flexibility, and resistance to water, vapour, chemicals, and salt permeation, while reducing surface dusting and water-to-cement ratio for better workability. It is also freeze-thaw stable and suitable for demanding environments like dairy parlours.

Key Points

  1. Enhances water resistance, durability, and flexibility of cement mixtures for long-term performance.
  2. Provides excellent adhesion to substrates such as concrete, steel, and tiles, and allows thinner application layers.
  3. Offers strong resistance to water, vapour, frost, chemicals, and salt permeation, with reduced surface dusting.
  4. Includes anti-foam for density control and maintains freeze-thaw stability, making it ideal for harsh environments.

Shelf Life: 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored in its original, unopened containers.

Storage Conditions: It should be kept at moderate temperatures to prevent permanent damage caused by prolonged exposure to excessive heat or cold. If the product freezes, it should be thawed slowly before use. For optimal performance, the latex should be stirred prior to application.

EVERBUILD 503 Premium SBR Bond is versatile, serving as an admixture for mortar, screeds, and renders, a bonding agent for screeds and renders, and a primer/sealer for tiling applications. It enhances flexibility in cement-based tile adhesives, particularly for tiling on wooden or asphalt floors. Unlike most PVA bonding aids, it remains unaffected by wet conditions, making it highly suitable for exterior use.

Application Instructions

Substrate Preparation:
Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, or contaminants. The substrate must withstand applied stresses and include appropriate joints. For toppings, the substrate should have a compressive strength greater than 30 N/mm² and a tensile strength exceeding 1 N/mm². Mechanically prepare floors (e.g., scabbling or shot blasting) to expose the aggregate and remove dust with a vacuum. Remove contaminants like oil or laitance to ensure proper adhesion. Perform a water drop test to check for water-repellent contamination.

Mixing:
Mixing for EVERBUILD® 503 Premium SBR Bond-modified screeds or toppings follows standard procedures, replacing part of the gauging water with the product. Minimize mixing time to reduce air entrainment, using a forced-action mixer. Pre-mix sand and cement, then add EVERBUILD® 503 Premium SBR Bond and mix for 1–3 minutes. Slowly add water to achieve the desired consistency. Avoid overwatering as it causes rapid thinning due to the latex’s plasticizing effect. Mix designs vary based on thickness and intended use.

Application Method:

  • Apply the topping or screed onto a wet or tacky primer.
  • Compact and level with a screed bar, finishing with a steel float as you proceed.
  • Cure the topping or screed for 1–2 days using standard techniques, starting immediately after application.
  • Align screed joints with the substrate joints. Work below 25°C for easier application. If water repellents are detected, consider an epoxy primer instead of latex/cement.

Key Advantages:

  • Low water-to-cement ratio allows quicker overcoating.
  • Reduces permeability and improves chemical, abrasion, and impact resistance.
  • Dust-resistant, lightweight screeds with excellent slip resistance and compatibility with epoxy surfacing.

Selection of Materials:

  • Use well-washed, sharp sand suitable for the mix design.
  • Compatible cements include Portland, High Alumina, and sulphate-resisting types, avoiding air-set lumps.
  • Use dust-free coarse aggregates like granite chippings and avoid air-entraining agents.

Pot Life:
The mix has a pot life of approximately 30 minutes; batch sizes should be calculated accordingly.

Cleaning of Tools:
Clean tools immediately after use with water. For partially hardened material, use solvents like white spirit with coarse wire wool.

Limitations:
Not suitable for unpainted colored exterior decorative renders due to poor UV resistance, which may cause discoloration.
