Hodgson Sealants Foilband is:
- Suitable for application as a flashing tape, commonly used in conservatory construction.
- Effective for sealing, over-sealing, or repairing joints in gutters and downpipes.
- Ideal for sealing over T-bars in glazing and conservatories.
- Well-suited for temporary remedial tasks, including the sealing of leaking components.
APPLICATION
Surface Preparation: Prior to application, ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and devoid of frost, grease, and loose materials. For contaminated substrates, Hodgson recommends the use of propan-2-ol (IPA) for cleaning, allowing it to dry before applying the sealant strip. When applying the tape on porous or friable surfaces, it’s advised to treat the surface with an appropriate primer, such as an exterior-grade PVA, to seal and stabilize it.
Application: To prevent creasing of the foil, separate the foil and sealant from the backing paper while unwinding them from the roll. After application, use a roller to secure good adhesion to the substrate. Minimize seams in the flashing where possible. In cases where joints are necessary, they should overlap by a minimum of 120mm, with the uppermost piece overlapping on top of the lower strip, enabling water to run freely over the front surface of the flashing. When applying the tape on textured surfaces like pebble dash or rough brick, it’s recommended to apply a bead of Silfix® U9 Low Modulus Silicone on the top edge of the foil to prevent water from penetrating behind the strip.
