ARDEX W 820 SUPERFINISH offers versatile application methods, allowing it to be applied by hand, roller, or spray to plaster, walls, and ceilings. It is particularly well-suited for fast-track installations when covering larger areas and can also be utilized for creating decorative designs. This product can be applied to a variety of substrates, including:

  • Plasterboards
  • Pre-rendered walls
  • Suitable concrete backgrounds
  • Aerated concrete
  • Lightweight blocks
  • Construction boards
  • Joints in plasterboards and prefabricated concrete slabs
  • Plaster

Substrate Preparation: Before application, ensure that surfaces are rigid, dry, clean, and free from dust, grease, and any barriers to adhesion. ARDEX W 820 SUPERFINISH adheres directly to plasterboards, absorbent construction boards, cement/sand renders, and gypsum-based plasters without the need for priming. However, concrete or highly absorbent surfaces may require priming with ARDEX P 51 Concentrated Water-Based Primer and Bonding Agent, diluted at a ratio of 3 parts water to 1 part primer. Apply this mixture with a brush and allow it to dry. For smooth and dense surfaces, such as varnished finishes or oil-based paints, priming may be necessary using either ARDEX P 82 Water-Based Epoxy Primer or ARDEX P 4 Ready Mixed Rapid Drying Multi-Purpose Primer. It’s important to use compatible primers, and if there is any uncertainty, a trial application is recommended.

Mixing Instructions: Gradually add the powder to clean water while stirring continuously; using a drill with an appropriate spiral mixing paddle is recommended. Depending on the desired consistency, use 14.75 to 16 liters of water per 25kg bag for roller application, and 12.5 to 14 liters for spray application. After mixing, allow the product to stand for 2-3 minutes to ensure the additives dissolve completely, then remix to a smooth, creamy consistency. For roller application, utilize a coarse pile roller (20mm) and apply the mixed product vertically, ensuring full coverage. After the first application dries, apply a second coat at right angles and smooth while fresh with a smoothing blade or steel float.

Application Techniques: Small quantities can be mixed by hand by adding 2 parts of powder to 1 part of clean water and mixing thoroughly. Apply ARDEX W 820 SUPERFINISH with various tools, including a notched or smooth steel trowel, coarse roller, spray pump, blade, or filling knife. Notched trowel and roller applications should be smoothed afterward with a large straight edge or smoothing blade. Ensure that application occurs at temperatures above 5°C. For filling holes, the product can be applied up to 20mm thick, with gradual filling from the edges to minimize air bubbles. Any imperfections should be corrected with a damp sponge before the product dries, which eliminates the need for sanding. If desired, the hardened product can be sanded or a subsequent coat applied.

Reinforcement Recommendations: While the installation of reinforcing mesh or tapes is not always necessary, their use is advisable for certain applications to ensure added durability and stability.
