Step 1 – Drying time
- If you’re tiling onto new cement render, the render must be a minimum of 2 weeks old (3 weeks for swimming pools) to enable movement caused by drying shrinkage to have taken place.
Step 2 – Ensure the render is flat and firm
- When tiling onto cement render, ensure that surfaces to be tiled are flat, clean, sound and free from dust and contamination which may prevent the adhesive bonding to the render.
Step 3 – Prime the surface
- When tiling with a cementitious-based tile adhesive, prime the render with one coat of ARDEX P 51 Primer (diluted 1:3 with water)
- Allow to dry before tiling.
- No priming is required when using a ready-mixed adhesive.
Step 4 – Wet areas
- British Standards recommend that any background in a wet area should be tanked
- Waterproof the background with ARDEX WPC for showers. For full instruction details visit ARDEX.co.uk
