Mapei MapeStik is a high-tack, pre-mixed adhesive paste designed for affixing ceramic tiles securely. Intended for application on indoor walls, it’s particularly suitable for attaching tiles to plaster and plasterboard surfaces.

This adhesive is perfect for bonding porous ceramic tiles and mosaics sized up to 300 mm x 300 mm onto interior walls. MapeStik is composed of a water dispersion containing synthetic resins, carefully graded minerals, and diverse additives.

MapeStik comes in a creamy, ready-to-use paste form that can be easily applied with a trowel. It boasts excellent initial grab and thixotropic properties, ensuring wall tiles can be installed without slipping. Once it sets, MapeStik offers strong bonding capabilities, along with ample flexibility to accommodate slight vibrations and material shifts in building structures.

Mapei MapeStik is ideal for the following applications.

  • Placing ceramic and mosaic tiles onto surfaces such as:
  • Gypsum plaster
  • Gypsum plasterboard
  • Cement-based coatings and fully cured reinforced concrete walls
  • Tile backer boards

APPLICATION

Preparing the Base Prior to applying MapeStik, ensure the surface is a suitable porous substrate that is solid, stable, and devoid of oils, grease, wax, fissures, or loose particles.

Application of the Adhesive MAPESTIK A high-adhesion, pre-mixed, slip-resistant paste adhesive formulated for affixing ceramic tiles. Specifically designed for interior wall usage, it is exceptionally suited for tiling onto plaster and plasterboard backdrops.

MapeStik should be spread onto the substrate using a notched trowel. The size of the notches should enable the adhesive to effectively cover a minimum of 65% of the tile’s back surface in dry service zones, and 100% in wet service areas like bathrooms. The working time for MapeStik is approximately 20 minutes under standard temperature and humidity conditions. Tiles should be placed within this window, and the adhesive should be applied for no more than 1 to 2 square meters at a time. If a surface skin forms on the adhesive, it should be reapplied. Avoid usage at temperatures below +5°C.

Tile Installation When positioning the tiles, firmly press them while using a twisting or sliding motion to ensure proper adhesive transfer. The depth of the adhesive bed, once compressed, should not exceed 3mm. Any adjustments to tile placement should be made within 30 minutes.

Grouting and Expansion Joints Under typical temperature conditions, grouting can commence 12 hours after the tiles have been set. Fill the gaps between tiles using an appropriate MAPEI grout such as Keracolor FF or Ultracolor Plus. For enhanced resistance against chemical agents, consider utilizing Kerapoxy, a two-component epoxy grout known for its chemical durability. For sealing flexible expansion joints, utilize Mapesil AC, a single-component silicone sealant.
