Storage and Shelf Life
ARDEX P 51 should be stored in its original, unopened packaging, elevated off the ground in a cool, dry environment. It must be protected from excessive draughts to maintain its quality. When stored under these conditions, ARDEX P 51 has a shelf life of 12 months from the date indicated on the packaging.

ARDEX P 51 is suitable for priming and sealing various surfaces, including cement or gypsum plaster-based materials, cement-based or anhydrite screeds, and alpha hemihydrate pumped screeds, prior to the application of cement-based products. It also improves adhesion to dense concrete sub-floors and cement-based screeds, making it ideal for use before applying repair mortars or cement-based tile adhesives. Additionally, ARDEX P 51 can prime rigidly supported and conditioned plywood sub-floors before installing ceramic tiles with appropriate cement-based adhesives. It can also serve as a temporary protective coating over cement-based smoothing compounds and repair mortars, allowing for foot traffic before the final flooring is installed, and as a dust-proofing treatment on screeds.
Substrate Preparation
Substrates must be dry, firm, and free from dust, water-soluble materials, excess adhesive residues, and any other barriers to adhesion. Ensure that the surface is protected by a functioning damp-proof membrane (DPM). Remove any surface contamination such as polish, wax, grease, and curing agents using ARDEX DGR degreaser before undertaking mechanical preparation. ARDEX P 51 should not be used on metal, mastic asphalt, excess adhesive residues, ARDEX DPM, polyurethane, or epoxy coatings. For guidance on these surfaces, refer to the datasheets for ARDEX P 82 Water Dispersed Epoxy Primer and ARDEX R 3 E General Purpose Epoxy Primer.
Application
Shake the ARDEX P 51 container well before use. If dilution is required, pour the ARDEX P 51 into a clean container and mix with the specified amount of water according to the mixing ratio. Ensure that both the ambient temperature and the surface temperature are above 5°C. When applying ARDEX P 51 where moisture-sensitive materials will be used, confirm that the substrate is dry—screeds should have a relative humidity (RH) reading of no more than 75%, and, if directly on the ground, protected by an effective DPM. Apply the primer evenly using a soft broom or brush over the clean, dust-free surface. Allow the primer to dry thoroughly, forming a clear, thin blue film, before proceeding with any subsequent work.
