BAL Level Out is a high-performance, fast-setting external leveller designed to smooth rough or impact-damaged concrete bases prior to tiling. Easy to use and free-flowing, it can be applied from 2mm to 20mm in a single application and is walkable after just 2 hours and ready for tiling after 3 hours at 20°C. With a 30-minute pot life, reduced water option for gradient levelling, and excellent water and frost resistance, BAL Level Out provides a durable and reliable solution for external levelling projects.
Key Points
– Fast-setting external leveller for concrete bases
– Apply from 2–20mm in a single pour
– Walkable after 2 hours; tile after 3 hours (20°C)
– Water and frost resistant with a 30-minute pot life
Note: the thickness of combined layers should not exceed 20mm.
SHELF LIFE
12 months under normal dry conditions. Protect from frost and damp.

Use For:
– Preparing backgrounds suitable for external tiling
– Levelling uneven concrete substrates
– Bed depths from 2mm up to 20mm
– Dry or wet environments, including total immersion in pools
– Domestic or commercial installations
Can receive ceramic or natural stone tiles after 3 hours at 20°C (longer drying required for greater depths or lower temperatures)
Note: Direct-to-earth subfloors should incorporate an effective damp proof membrane
Not Suitable For:
– Use as a wearing screed
– Levelling sloped backgrounds where falls are intentionally designed to divert water to a primary drainage point. Any substrate laid to falls should maintain the correct slope for effective drainage
SURFACE PREPARATION
General
– Ensure all concrete surfaces are dry, sound, and free from grease, dust, or any other contaminants that could hinder adhesion. Direct-to-earth subfloors must include an effective damp proof membrane.
Concrete
– Concrete must be fully cured and free from efflorescence, laitance, dirt, polished surfaces, or other loose materials. Remove unwanted material using appropriate mechanical methods. Some exposed aggregate should remain visible but not loose.
Minimum drying times:
Concrete: 6 weeks
– Thoroughly dampen the substrate with water before applying BAL Level Out, taking care to avoid pools of standing water. Any structural movement or live joints in the substrate must be reflected through BAL Level Out to the surface.
MIXING
1. Mix one 25kg bag of BAL Level Out with approximately 5.25 litres of clean water until a smooth, lump-free mortar is achieved. Reduce the water content if gradient levelling is required. For pumping, use continuous pumps with a capacity of 20–40 litres per minute. Do not add excess water, as this will weaken the set mortar.
2. A mixing paddle on a slow-speed (600–1000 rpm) electric drill makes mixing easier. BAL Level Out should be applied within 30 minutes at 20°C; working time decreases at higher temperatures and increases at lower temperatures.
25kg bag: approx. 5.25 litres of clean cold water
APPLICATION
1. Pour the mixed BAL Level Out onto the prepared substrate. The mortar will self-smooth and flow during the first 10 minutes of its 30-minute working time. Spread using a steel trowel or float. For large areas, a gauging tool with height adjustment is recommended, and a long-handled smoothing trowel can simplify finishing.
2. The surface can be left with a trowelled finish. Protect the freshly applied BAL Level Out from adverse conditions such as rapid drying, direct sunlight, rain, or frost until fully hardened. Apply only at temperatures above 5°C.
3. If a second layer is required, wait until the first layer has fully hardened. Machine-sand the first layer (paper 16–36), clean it, and dampen it before applying the next coat.
