Suitable for exterior wood
Before You Start
– Ensure the wood is clean, dry, and free from paint, varnish, or stain.
– Shake thoroughly before use and test on a small area to confirm colour suitability.
Application
– Apply by brush, spray, or dip application depending on the area.
– For end grains, dipping is recommended to ensure full penetration.
– Apply at least 3 coats, allowing 24 hours drying time between coats.
– Carry out any repairs or gluing only after the second coat is fully dry.
Clean Up
– Remove excess preserver from brushes and clean using white spirit.
– Do not pour leftover product into drains or watercourses.
– Dispose of unused product responsibly via local authority facilities if required.
Identifying Rot and Damage
Dry Rot
– Appears as white, cotton wool-like growths or grey sheets, sometimes with branching strands.
– May produce rusty red, pancake-shaped fruiting bodies.
– Affects wood by causing it to shrink, split, and become dry and brittle.
Wet Rot
– Causes darkening of wood with a soft, spongy texture.
– Timber splits along the grain into smaller cube-like sections.
– May show thin brown fungal strands on the surface.
Insect Attack
– Identified by small round exit holes or internal tunnelling in the wood.
– Fresh holes reveal clean timber inside.
– Fine, gritty powder (frass) may be visible around affected areas.
