Mapeband SA is a self-adhesive butyl rubber waterproofing tape designed to seal fillets and junctions between horizontal and vertical surfaces on terraces, balconies, bathrooms, and showers. It is used as a complementary component within elastic waterproofing systems, including the Mapelastic and Aquaflex Roof ranges, as well as Mapegum WPS, to help create durable, watertight transitions.

Suitable for:
– Waterproofing internal corners and floor-to-wall junctions on terraces, balconies, bathrooms, and showers.
– Sealing joints between dissimilar materials, including bitumen membranes, metal, ceramic tiles, and cementitious screeds.
– Waterproofing small and difficult-to-access junctions around window and door frames.
– Sealing interfaces between ledges and adjoining substrates to provide a watertight finish.
Preparation of the substrate
– Surfaces must be fully cured, sound, clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, cement laitance, dust, or any contaminants that could affect adhesion.
– Mapeband SA can be applied to concrete, solid and perforated brick, and concrete block substrates, provided they are free from sharp edges and surface irregularities. Where levelling is required, use a suitable product from the MAPEI Planitop or Mapegrout ranges.
– Crumbly or dusty screeds should be consolidated with MAPEI Primer 3296 before application. Primer consumption typically ranges from 0.1–0.5 kg/m², depending on the substrate’s absorption and porosity.
– Existing ceramic tiles should be primed with MAPEI Eco Prim Grip before installation. When applying over bitumen membranes, ensure the surface is clean and pre-treated with Primer for Aquaflex. Apply Mapeband SA only once the primer is touch dry.
Application of the product
– Unroll Mapeband SA onto a clean, flat surface and cut it to the required length using a suitable cutter.
– Position the tape at the start of the joint or fillet and partially remove one section of the protective film. Press the tape firmly from the centre outwards to ensure full adhesion and eliminate wrinkles or trapped air. Remove the remaining protective film to complete the application.
– Where two lengths of tape meet, provide a minimum overlap of 50 mm (5 cm). Once installed, roll the entire surface with a rubber roller to ensure complete bonding.
– Complete the waterproofing system by applying a suitable coating from the Mapelastic range, Mapegum WPS, or Aquaflex Roof over the prepared substrate.
