ARDEX Fine Aggregate is used as a “sand blind” to create a roughened, textured surface on wet epoxy primers such as ARDEX R 3E. The aggregate is applied to the fresh primer, fully covering it, and any excess is removed after the primer sets. This process leaves a “sandpaper” finish that enhances adhesion for subsequent layers like smoothing compounds or tile adhesives.
Preparation
- Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and properly prepared before applying the epoxy primer.
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific ARDEX epoxy primer being used.
Application
- Apply ARDEX Fine Aggregate directly onto the wet epoxy primer while it is still fresh.
- Ensure complete and even coverage of the primer with the dry aggregate.
Purpose
- The aggregate creates a mechanical key or roughened surface to improve bonding with subsequent layers, such as smoothing compounds or tile adhesives.
Removal of Excess
- Once the epoxy primer has set, brush or vacuum away any excess aggregate to reveal a uniform “sandpaper” finish.
