ARDEX RAPIDLAY MEMBRANE is suitable for various applications, including screed or concrete substrates where construction moisture has not fully dried, with a maximum of 5% moisture content or 92% relative humidity. It can be used on anhydrite screeds with a moisture content of up to 2% as measured by the carbide method. This membrane is also effective in areas that have been exposed to water spillage and can be installed over old sub-floors lacking a fully functioning damp-proof membrane. Additionally, it can be laid over existing, soundly fixed flooring when a temporary covering is required without the use of adhesive. Furthermore, it is compatible with heated concrete or cement/sand screeds at temperatures up to 27ºC.
ARDEX RAPIDLAY MEMBRANE should not be used in areas subjected to heavy wheeled traffic, such as forklift or pallet truck routes, or chair castors. It is also unsuitable for timber bases that lack adequate ventilation, sub-floors experiencing hydrostatic pressure, and those with effective damp-proof membranes that exceed 97% relative humidity or no damp-proof membrane with humidity above 92%. Additionally, it is not recommended for use on magnesite, composite floors, biologically sensitive areas, or locations where full adhesion of flooring is required, such as prisons.
Application Instructions: The sub-floor must be sufficiently smooth and flat; if not, refer to the ARDITEX NA low-odor, latex leveling and smoothing compound data sheet for guidance. For instance, wide or recessed joints in ceramic tiling may need pre-smoothing to prevent reflections through the flooring. When installing ARDEX RAPIDLAY MEMBRANE, lay it without adhesive, with the textured side facing down, and leave a 3-6mm gap along walls and upstands. Joints should be abutted and secured using ARDEX RAPIDLAY MEMBRANE Jointing Tape or another suitable 50mm wide adhesive tape. Ensure the underlay lies flat and is aligned in the same direction as the final flooring. The joints in the flooring should be offset by at least 30cm from those in the ARDEX RAPIDLAY MEMBRANE. Prior to use, allow the membrane to acclimatize for at least 24 hours at a minimum temperature of 18°C, ideally rolling it out to ensure it lays flat. Use either close butt joints or overlaps, cutting through for a tight fit, and avoid compressing the joints to prevent ridges under the flooring. Adhere the flooring to the ARDEX RAPIDLAY MEMBRANE with a suitable adhesive, such as ARDEX AF 145 Pressure Sensitive Adhesive or ARDEX AF 2525 Two-Component Heavy Duty Adhesive, particularly if moisture levels exceed 92% RH. Apply the adhesive with an appropriate notched trowel or roller, and allow 24 hours before welding seams. In moisture-prone areas, ensure the complete system is sealed with conventional clamp-type drain gulleys, sealing around pipes and the perimeter as necessary. At transition points, secure the flooring with mechanical fixings.
