ARDEX X 325 PTB and ARDEX X 325 PTB W are rapid-setting, cement-based thick-bed pourable floor tile adhesives designed for applications ranging from 3mm to 25mm in depth. These adhesives allow for tiles to be walked on and grouted within just 3 hours. Classified as C2 F by BS EN 12004, they are recognized as improved, fast-setting cementitious adhesives with excellent performance characteristics. These offer strong adhesion with a tensile strength of over 1 N/mm², even after water immersion, heat aging, or freeze-thaw cycling. While these adhesives are ideal for large format tiles and irregular thicknesses without the need for back-buttering, for deeper applications over 10mm or with moisture-sensitive natural stones, additional products like ARDITEX NA or ARDEX S 28 are recommended. They are versatile for both internal and external areas, including swimming pools and underfloor heating systems.
Key Points:
- Rapid Setting & Application: Sets quickly, allowing foot traffic and grouting within 3 hours, with application depths of 3-25mm.
- High Performance: Classified as C2 F by BS EN 12004, these adhesives have a tensile strength exceeding 1 N/mm², even under adverse conditions such as water immersion, heat, or freeze-thaw cycling.
- Versatile Use: Suitable for large format tiles and irregular thicknesses, with strong adhesion to most construction materials. Back-buttering may be needed for tiles with deep profiles.
- Additional Recommendations: For depths over 10mm or moisture-sensitive stones, consider using ARDITEX NA or ARDEX S 28 for optimal performance.
Coverage: Requires approximately 1.4kg of powder per square meter for each millimeter of bed thickness. A 20kg bag of either adhesive produces about 14.4 liters of mortar, covering approximately 4.8 square meters at a 3mm bed thickness.
Storage and Shelf Life: Store ARDEX X 325 PTB and ARDEX X 325 PTB W in their unopened packaging, off the ground, in a cool, dry place, and protect from drafts. When stored properly, these products have a shelf life of 12 months from the packaging date.

Surface Preparation
Ensure that backgrounds and surfaces are clean, firm, and free from dust, dirt, oil, grease, and other contaminants that could affect adhesion. The surfaces must have adequate drying time as specified in BS 5385 and be primed where necessary; refer to the TILING BACKGROUNDS GUIDANCE NOTES for detailed guidance. The surfaces should be finished to meet Surface Regularity 1 standards, meaning that gaps under a 2m straight edge should not exceed 3mm. For subfloors that are not level, use an ARDEX Levelling and Smoothing Compound, such as ARDITEX NA Rapid Setting Latex Levelling Compound, to achieve a smooth surface. It can be applied to both dry and moist surfaces, but moisture-sensitive materials must be dry and remain dry after fixing. In wet areas such as bathrooms and showers, it is recommended to use ARDEX WPC Flexible Rapid Drying Waterproof Coating before tiling to create a waterproof barrier and prevent water damage.
Mixing
The mixing proportions are approximately 4 parts powder to 1 part clean water. A 20kg bag requires about 4 to 4.5 litres of water. For applications exceeding 25mm in depth or for heavy stone/tiles, use the minimum recommended water content. Add the powder to the water in a clean container, stirring thoroughly until a lump-free mortar is achieved. Allow the mixed adhesive to stand for 2 minutes, then remix for 30 seconds. The use of an ARDEX mixing paddle or similar cage-type paddle with a 10mm chuck and variable-speed electric drill is recommended. The pot life of the mixed mortar is approximately 30 minutes at 20°C, with time adjustments needed for temperature variations.
Application
Apply at temperatures above 5°C. These adhesives can be applied in thicknesses ranging from 3-25mm in a single application. Alternatively, apply in two layers: first, a smoothing layer that hardens before applying the final ribbed mortar bed. The mixed adhesive should be applied with a trowel and combed through with a suitably sized square-toothed notched trowel. The open time is up to 20 minutes, and tiles can be adjusted for up to 10 minutes at 20°C. These times may vary based on site conditions and temperature.
Grouting
Grouting can proceed once the tile bed has hardened sufficiently, approximately 3 hours at 20°C. This timeframe may vary with temperature and site conditions. Use ARDEX-FLEX Flexible Tile Grout: ARDEX-FLEX FS for joints up to 4mm wide or ARDEX-FLEX FL for joints 3-15mm wide. For areas requiring superior chemical resistance and hygiene, consider ARDEX EG 8 PLUS Epoxide Tile Grout.
