BAL Silicone is ideal for sealing movement joints in floor and wall tiling installations on surfaces such as sanitary ware, acrylic, fibreglass, glass, glazed, and porcelain tiles in both dry and wet interior and exterior environments. It provides waterproofing, firm bonding, and is suitable for domestic and light commercial applications.

Restrictions: NOT suitable for
– Aquariums or swimming pools.

General
For general guidance on constructing movement joints in tiling, refer to BS5385: Parts 1–5. Before sealing, ensure that:
– Surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, or any contaminants that could impair adhesion.
– Non-porous surfaces are degreased using white spirit or other non-oily solvents.
– Wood surfaces should be painted prior to application.
– Not suitable for use in aquaria with lime-based cements, mortars, or copper-based metals. Do not apply to wet surfaces.
APPLICATION
Sealant Procedure
Recommended maximum joint width/depth: 6mm. For most movement joints, a 6x6mm cross-section is recommended.
1. Cut the tip of the cartridge, leaving enough screw thread to attach the nozzle.
2. Cut the cartridge nozzle to the required width and angle for the joint.
3. Place the cartridge in a caulking gun and apply a steady bead of BAL SILICONE sealant along the joint.
4. Tool the surface of the sealant to a slightly concave finish within 10 minutes of application.
5. Smooth the silicone using a wet silicone tool, spatula, or similar; a diluted soap or detergent solution may be used as a lubricant, but excessive amounts may affect adhesion at the joint edges.
6. Clean tools immediately after use with a degreasing solvent.
7. Remove masking tape immediately after tooling and before a skin forms on the sealant to achieve a neat edge.
8. Allow the sealant to cure (approx. 24 hours per 4mm thickness).
