Sikalastic-1K GB is a versatile, one-component, fiber-reinforced mortar designed for crack-bridging and waterproofing applications. Made from cement modified with special alkali-resistant polymers, it is easy to mix—requiring only the addition of water—and can be applied by brush or trowel. With excellent adhesion to various substrates, including concrete, cement mortars, stone, and masonry, it performs well even on damp surfaces and vertical applications.

Key Points:

  • User-Friendly Application: Adjustable consistency allows easy application by brush or trowel.
  • Strong Performance: Provides good crack-bridging and sag resistance.
  • Versatile Substrate Compatibility: Adheres well to concrete, masonry, and more.
  • Damp Surface Application: Suitable for use on damp substrates without compromise.

Shelf Life: 12 months from the date of production.
Storage Conditions: Store in its original, sealed packaging in a cool, dry place. Protect from water and moisture.

Sikalastic-1K GB is ideal for flexible waterproofing and protection of concrete structures such as tanks, basins, and pipes, this product is also perfect for waterproofing bathrooms, showers, terraces, balconies, and swimming pools prior to the application of ceramic tiles with adhesives. It is effective for waterproofing external wall surfaces that will be backfilled, as well as for protecting walls and floors in basements from negative water pressure. Additionally, it provides a flexible protective coating for reinforced concrete structures, safeguarding them against freeze-thaw damage and carbon dioxide attack to enhance durability.

Application Instructions

Substrate Quality / Pre-Treatment:
Substrates must be structurally sound, clean, dry, and free of contaminants such as dirt, oil, grease, cement laitance, coatings, and other surface treatments. Clean the surface using methods such as blast cleaning, high-pressure water jetting (400 bar), wire brushing, or grinding to remove any previous coatings, grease, rust, release agents, or other materials that could hinder adhesion. After cleaning, remove all dust by vacuuming. If necessary, repair concrete with an appropriate cementitious mortar from the SikaTop® or Sika MonoTop® range. Ensure the substrate is adequately dampened before application, but not so wet that it appears dark matte (saturated surface dry).

Mixing:
Sikalastic®-1K GB can be mixed using a low-speed hand drill mixer (~500 rpm), adding the correct amount of water for the application. Once a homogeneous mix is achieved, continue mixing for an additional 3–4 minutes until it is lump-free. Do not add extra water or other ingredients. Mix each bag thoroughly to ensure proper particle size distribution.

Application:
For optimal waterproofing, apply Sikalastic®-1K GB using the following methods:

  • Spatula/roller: Apply with consistent pressure on the substrate.
  • Brush: Apply in two directions (diagonal/crosswise).
  • Mechanical spray: Consult Sika Technical Service for guidance.

For best performance, apply Sikalastic®-1K GB in at least two layers, achieving a total thickness of at least 3 mm. When applying by brush, ensure even coverage with a maximum thickness of 1 mm per layer. Apply 2–3 layers, with each layer being applied crosswise. Allow each layer to dry before applying the next. Ensure the application covers the entire surface uniformly. Sikalastic®-1K GB cannot be smoothed with a float or sponge trowel; however, light abrasion techniques can be used after curing is complete.

Cleaning of Tools:
Clean tools thoroughly with water before the material sets. Once the mortar has hardened, it can only be removed mechanically.

Limitations:

  • Protect the surface from rain for at least 24–48 hours after application.
  • Avoid direct contact with chlorinated water (e.g., swimming pools) by using appropriate protection.
  • Do not apply in direct sunlight, during imminent rainfall, or in strong winds.
  • High relative humidity, especially in closed spaces like basements, can affect setting time; ensure adequate ventilation.
  • Before contact with drinking water, ensure Sikalastic®-1K GB is fully hardened, respecting the recommended waiting times. Carefully clean the surface to remove dust, loose material, or stagnant water according to local regulations.
  • Sikalastic®-1K GB is water vapour permeable and does not form a vapour barrier for resin-based systems that are not gas-permeable.
  • If applying a solvent-based paint over Sikalastic®-1K GB, conduct preliminary testing to ensure solvents do not damage the waterproofing layer.
  • When used in contact with drinking water, ensure Sikalastic®-1K GB and all associated Sika® products comply with local regulations for drinking water contact.
