Suitable for:
Fixing porous-bodied ceramics (up to 0.09 m², e.g., 300×300 mm), mosaics, and certain natural stones (excluding translucent or water-sensitive types) in dry or intermittently wet interior environments.
NOT suitable for
• Exterior use or total immersion areas (e.g. swimming pools).
• Commercial areas including showers and power showers.
• Non-porous tiles.
• Metal
• Bedding depths exceeding 3mm.
• Plywood/timber walls
• Ceramic tiles greater than 0.09m2
• Floors.
APPLICATION/USAGE
– Do not use in temperatures below 5°C or on damp surfaces. Drying times will be longer when fixing larger format tiles or on non-porous backgrounds. For large tiles, consider using a cementitious adhesive from the BAL range.
Trowel Recommendations:
Internal Dry Wall (up to 300x300mm tiles): Max 6mm Notched Trowel
Internal Wet Wall (up to 300x300mm tiles): Max 6mm Notched Solid Bed Trowel
Mosaics (up to 100x100mm tiles): Min 4mm Notched Trowel
Ensure correct adhesive coverage on both tile and background in line with BS 5385, Parts 1–5.
Fixing Procedure:
1. Apply adhesive to the wall and comb to required thickness, keeping ribs in one direction. For large or heavily-patterned tiles, apply additional adhesive to the reverse (max 3mm).
2. For mosaics, use a rubber float to press tiles into place, matching joints. For larger tiles, press firmly with slight twisting/sliding for full contact.
3. Fix tiles before adhesive skins. Remove and reapply if skin forms.
4. Check coverage: min 75% for dry areas, 100% for wet areas.
5. Leave adequate joints; install movement joints per BS 5385, Parts 1–5.
6. Clean excess adhesive from tile surfaces before drying.
Grouting:
1. Wait minimum 24 hours (20°C) after fixing; extend to 3 days for impervious backgrounds. Use BAL cementitious or epoxy grout.
2. Fill movement joints and seal around baths/showers with a suitable sealant (e.g., BAL MICROMAX SILICONE). Avoid surfaces sensitive to acetic acid release.
3. Do not use showers for at least 2 weeks post-application (BS 5385: Part 4).
4. Follow BS standards for joint widths (min. 2mm for walls; adjust by tile size and environment). Contact BAL Technical Advisory for guidance.
