Cold Gritting Adhesive is a solvent-based, cold-applied bituminous adhesive designed for bonding chippings to flat or low-pitched roofs. Ready to use and requiring no dilution or heating, it is formulated to bond a variety of aggregates, such as limestone, granite, white calcined spar, flint, gravel, and slate mineral chippings, to built-up felt and mastic asphalt roof surfaces. Once applied, it creates a durable, solar-reflective, weatherproof, and damage-resistant surface for enhanced roof protection.
Key Points:
- Solvent-based, cold-applied adhesive for bonding chippings to roofs.
- Ready to use; no dilution or heating required.
- Bonds a variety of aggregates to built-up felt and mastic asphalt surfaces.
- Provides a solar-reflective, weatherproof, and damage-resistant surface.
Coverage: The coverage per litre varies depending on the size of the chippings being bonded:
- For chippings sized 3-9mm, coverage is 1.8m² per litre.
- For chippings sized 12mm, coverage is 1.3m² per litre.
Storage: The product has a minimum shelf life of 12 months when stored in undamaged, tightly sealed containers. Keep the containers sealed and store them away from heat sources and ignition points to maintain product integrity.

Cold Gritting Adhesive is specifically formulated to bond a wide range of aggregates to built-up felt and mastic asphalt roof surfaces. Once applied, it creates a durable, solar-reflective, weatherproof, and damage-resistant surface. Aggregates compatible with Cold Gritting Adhesive include limestone, granite, white calcined spar, flint, gravel, and slate mineral chippings.
Method of Application:
Cold Gritting Adhesive should be applied using a stiff brush, mop, or squeegee. To prevent thickening in cold weather, store the adhesive in a warm room overnight before use.
Instructions:
Cold Gritting Adhesive is suitable for roofs with a slope of up to 10º. Ensure all surfaces are free from oil, dirt, dust, and loose debris. The surface should ideally be dry, though the product can be applied to damp (but not wet or waterlogged) surfaces. Spread the compound evenly directly from the container, applying it in sections of approximately 20m² at a time. Avoid pooling or applying the solution too thinly. Apply the chippings immediately onto the wet film, ensuring they cover the surface shoulder to shoulder without over-chipping. Move on to the next 20m² section, and allow the areas to cure for at least 72 hours before brushing off any excess chippings. Ensure no blank film is left exposed.
Cleaning Tools:
Tools can be cleaned using White Spirit. Clean up minor spills immediately before the product sets. For larger spills, mop up using an inert, absorbent material such as sand, and dispose of it in accordance with regulations.
