DOWSIL™ 799 Silicone Glass and Metal Building Sealant is a non-corrosive, moisture-curing silicone designed for glazing and weather sealing applications, offering excellent unprimed adhesion to many construction materials. Once cured, it forms a durable, flexible and long-lasting bond that performs reliably in harsh weather conditions, including exposure to rain, sunlight and extreme temperatures. With fast tooling and tack-free times, it allows efficient installation while delivering proven, long-term elasticity and protection.
Key Points
– Primerless adhesion to many common building materials.
– Non-corrosive and compatible with most construction substrates.
– Fast curing: 5–10 minutes tooling time, 20 minutes tack-free.
– Long-term weather resistance and flexibility from -40°C to 149°C, AAMA certified

DOWSIL™ 799 Silicone Glass and Metal Building Sealant is designed for:
– Conventional glazing applications
– Weatherseal applications, including perimeter sealing of doors and windows
– Sealing around metal building flashings, gutters, and gutter outlets
– Factory-applied glass, serving as the primary seal bedding compound in a finished sash
Preparation
Clean all joints and glazing pockets thoroughly, removing grease, oil, dust, moisture, frost, surface dirt, old sealants, glazing compounds and protective coatings. Metal, glass and plastic surfaces must be cleaned using mechanical or approved solvent methods; detergent or soap-and-water cleaning is not acceptable. When solvents are used, apply and remove them with clean, oil-free and lint-free cloths.
Priming
Refer to Dow for substrate-specific priming recommendations. Prior to full application, test adhesion by applying a small bead of sealant to the substrate and allowing it to cure.
Application
Install back-up materials, joint fillers, setting blocks, spacer shims and tapes as specified. Apply DOWSIL™ 799 Silicone Glass and Metal Building Sealant continuously using sufficient positive pressure to fully fill and seal the joint. Tool the sealant with light pressure to ensure good contact with the joint surfaces and back-up material; a concave profiling tool is recommended. The sealant may be applied at temperatures down to -37 °C (-35 °F), provided surfaces are clean, dry and frost-free. Remove excess uncured sealant from adjacent surfaces using suitable commercial solvents such as isopropyl alcohol, xylene, toluene or methyl ethyl ketone.
Limitations
DOWSIL™ 799 Silicone Glass and Metal Building Sealant is not recommended for below-grade applications, horizontal joints exposed to abrasion, structural glazing, confined spaces lacking atmospheric moisture, painted surfaces, wet or frost-covered substrates, or materials that bleed oils or plasticisers. It may discolor copper and brass and may cause stress cracking in polycarbonate. The product is not tested or intended for medical or pharmaceutical applications
