Mapetex Sel is a non-woven, macro-holed polypropylene fabric engineered to reinforce Mapei waterproof membranes, such as Mapelastic Smart and Mapelastic Turbo, by enhancing key performance characteristics. Its design offers:

Mapetex Sel is a macro-holed polypropylene fabric designed to reinforce Mapelastic Turbo and Mapelastic Smart, flexible cementitious membranes used for waterproofing and protecting concrete surfaces, especially those prone to significant movement and cracking. This reinforcement is ideal for applications where concrete structures are at high risk of deformation. Typical uses include:
- Large containment basins
- Retaining walls
- Foundations
- Rooftop gardens and green roofs
- Flat roofs
- Swimming pools
- Bathrooms, shower stalls, and wet rooms
- Terraces and balconies
Preparation of the Substrate
A) Protection and Waterproofing of Concrete Structures and Units
Before applying Mapetex Sel, ensure the concrete surface is solid and thoroughly clean. Remove any cement laitance, loose particles, dust, grease, oil, or release agents by sandblasting or using high-pressure water jets. If the concrete structure is deteriorated, repair any damaged areas using Mapegrout or Planitop products before applying Mapelastic Turbo or Mapelastic Smart for waterproofing and protection.
B) Waterproofing of Terraces, Balconies, Bathrooms, and Swimming Pools
1. Cementitious Screeds:
- Seal any slump cracks or cracks from plastic or hygrometric shrinkage with Eporip.
- For leveling thicknesses up to 2 cm (e.g., creating slopes or filling dips), apply Adesilex P4.
2. Existing Floors:
- Floors made of ceramic, gres, clinker, terracotta, or similar materials should be well-bonded to the substrate and free from substances like grease, oil, wax, or paint that could hinder bonding.
3. Renders:
- Cementitious render must be sufficiently cured (7 days per cm thickness in good weather), well-bonded, durable, and free from dust and paint. Dampen absorbent surfaces before applying the product.
Application Procedure for Mapetex Sel
- Preparation of Mapelastic Turbo or Mapelastic Smart: Follow the respective product’s technical data sheet for preparation.
- First Layer Application: Apply a uniform layer, 1-2 mm thick, of Mapelastic Turbo or Mapelastic Smart either manually or by spray.
- Laying Mapetex Sel: While the first layer is still fresh, carefully lay Mapetex Sel on the surface, pressing it firmly with a flat-bladed trowel to ensure complete adhesion.
- Second Layer Application: Apply a second uniform layer, 1-2 mm thick, of Mapelastic Turbo or Mapelastic Smart to fully cover Mapetex Sel. Overlap adjacent sheets of Mapetex Sel by at least 5 cm at all junction points, both longitudinally and transversely.
