SURFACE PREPARATION
General
Before fixing wall and floor tiles, ensure surfaces are flat, clean, dry, sound, and free from contaminants or barriers to adhesion. Profiled or porous tiles may show traces of adhesive—conduct a trial if uncertain. Ensure adequate ventilation and avoid use in temperatures below 10°C, above 30°C, or in damp conditions.
APPLICATION
Grouting procedure
Ensure surfaces and joints are clean, dry, and free from debris. Check potential staining by testing a small area; apply BAL PROTECTIVE SEALER if necessary. For delicate or textured tiles, test in an inconspicuous area or consult the manufacturer. Work in small areas using a hard rubber grout float, fully compacting grout and removing excess as you proceed. Clean within 15–60 minutes using a damp sponge or white emulsifying pad, working diagonally to the joints, avoiding pooling water. Remove any remaining haze the following day. Protect newly grouted surfaces in showers and food preparation areas until cured (minimum 2 weeks for showers, chemical resistance achieved after 7 days at 20°C). For external areas, provide protection from weather. For plaster or plasterboard, ensure tile weight does not exceed limits (20kg/m² plaster, 32kg/m² plasterboard); use battens if required.
MIXING
Thoroughly mix the hardener and resin until uniform, then add filler and mix to a smooth, homogeneous mortar. Use a slow-speed propeller stirrer to avoid air entrapment. Back-mix remaining resin and hardener to ensure complete reaction before disposal. Working time/pot life is approximately 60 minutes at 20°C, shorter at higher temperatures, longer at lower temperatures.
APPLICATION
Adhesive procedure
Apply adhesive to the prepared substrate using the appropriate trowel, combing to create a ribbed bed. Press tiles firmly into place with slight twisting/sliding action to ensure full contact; for floors, achieve a solid bed with a minimum 3mm depth. Fix tiles before the adhesive skins (approx. 10 minutes at 20°C), removing any set adhesive and applying fresh if needed. Clean excess adhesive from the tile surface as you work. Grouting is suitable after 16 hours at 20°C.
