Bal Waterproof 1C is a fast-drying, ready-to-use tanking system for internal wet areas, offering total waterproof protection. It can be applied by brush, roller, or trowel with no mixing required and can be reused if needed. The product allows for one-coat application without priming, provides crack-bridging up to 3mm on floors without tape or matting, and tiles can be applied after just 2 hours, making it ideal for quick and effective internal waterproofing projects.

Suitable for:
– Provides complete waterproofing protection of substrates prior to fixing wall and floor tiles
– Suitable for internal domestic and commercial applications
– EAD certified for NHBC-compliant shower and wet-room installations before tiling
– All corners and edges must be reinforced with BAL Scrim Tape, particularly:
– Areas where movement may occur, such as around drainage channels, floor-to-wall junctions, and suspended floors
– Recommended in showers, wet rooms, kitchens, laundry/utility rooms, and around drainage points or upstands
NOT suitable for
– External use, total immersion, barrier to prevent water ingress from background/base (e.g. DPM
Application Procedure
1. Surface Preparation: BAL Waterproof 1C can be applied without priming to plasterboard, cement:sand render, screeds, concrete, plywood overlays, BAL BOARD (decorating smooth side), and BAL RAPID-MAT. For plaster, cement boards, or BAL BOARD on the tiling side, prime surfaces with one coat of neat BAL Primer 1C and allow to dry for 15–30 minutes.
2. Corner and Joint Reinforcement: Apply self-adhesive BAL Scrim Tape at:
– Internal and external corners of walls/partitions
– Wall junctions with base, upstands, or columns
– Pipe penetrations, drainage channels, and outlets
– Junctions of different base or background materials
– Cracks and board joints wider than 3mm
3. Application: Using a suitable roller, 4mm notched trowel, or brush, apply BAL Waterproof 1C evenly over the entire area, including over the BAL Scrim Tape.
4. Wall Coverage: Apply one coat to walls ensuring a minimum thickness of 0.8mm.
5. Floor Coverage: Apply to floors at a minimum thickness of 1.6mm. Two coats are recommended to ensure the required thickness.
6. Drying Time: Allow the membrane to dry for a minimum of 2 hours before tiling.
7. Tiling: Use the correct BAL adhesive and grout. For detailed guidance, refer to the BAL Technical Data Sheet or contact the BAL Technical Advisory and Specification Service.
