Allweather Roofing Compound is a solvent-based, cold-applied bituminous coating reinforced with organic fiber for added strength and stability. It provides an effective, general-purpose roofing solution that becomes water-resistant almost immediately after application, making it ideal for winter use. This versatile compound can reseal, waterproof, and repair various roof coverings, including asphalt, built-up felt, concrete decks, asbestos-cement sheeting, and metal surfaces such as iron, steel, zinc, and lead, as well as slates and tiles. It can be used with rot-proof hessian reinforcement scrim or bituminized glass fiber scrim and also functions as a vapor barrier. However, it is not suitable for use in silage pits.

Key Points:

  • Fast-Acting Protection – Becomes water-resistant almost immediately, making it suitable for winter use.
  • Versatile Application – Repairs and waterproofs various roofing materials, including metal, concrete, and tiles.
  • Enhanced Strength – Contains organic fiber for added durability and stability.
  • Additional Uses – Can be reinforced with scrim and used as a vapor barrier but is unsuitable for silage pits.

Storage Life: Minimum of 12 months if kept in undamaged, tightly sealed containers. Store indoors, away from ignition sources, open flames, and high heat.

Coverage: Apply Allweather Roofing Compound in two coats, covering 1–1.5m² per litre, depending on surface porosity.

Allweather Roofing Compound is ideal for resealing, waterproofing, and repairing various roof coverings, including asphalt, built-up felt, concrete decks, asbestos-cement sheeting, metal surfaces (iron, steel, zinc, and lead), as well as slates and tiles. It can be reinforced with rot-proof hessian scrim or bituminized glass fiber scrim and also serves as a vapor barrier. However, it is not suitable for use in silage pits.

Preparation
Before applying Allweather Roofing Compound, ensure the roof is structurally sound. Replace or repair any broken, cracked, or missing tiles, slates, or sheets, and fill any cracks in felt or asphalt. All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from oil, dirt, dust, algae, fungus, and loose debris. Treat algae and fungal growth with a fungicide to prevent regrowth.

Surface-Specific Guidelines

  • Asphalt Roofs: Heat blisters with a blow lamp and smooth them out. If the asphalt is crumbling or severely cracked, replace it with a polyester-based underlay. Apply two coats of Allweather Roofing Compound, allowing the first to dry before the second.
  • Built-up Felt Roofs: Remove loose chippings and clean thoroughly. Fill cracks wider than 0.75mm with Trowel Mastic. Open and clean blisters before applying Allweather Roofing Compound at 1.5m² per litre, allowing it to become tacky before re-fixing the felt. Follow with a glass membrane application.
  • Reinforced Concrete: Ensure the deck is fully cured before applying Universal Primer at 6–8m² per litre. Then, apply Allweather Roofing Compound and a glass membrane.
  • Lightweight Concrete: Allow the surface to cure before bonding a glass fibre felt underlay with Roofing Felt Adhesive and Cold Gritting Adhesive. Ensure proper sealing and ventilation, then apply Allweather Roofing Compound and a glass membrane.
  • Asbestos-Cement Sheeting: Ensure the sheeting is dry before applying Bitumen Primer. Once dry, apply two coats of Allweather Roofing Compound, ensuring full contact without trapped air.
  • Metal Surfaces: Remove loose rust with a wire brush and apply a rust inhibitor if necessary. Apply two coats of Allweather Roofing Compound at 1.5m² per litre per coat.
  • Slate & Tiles: Secure any loose slates or tiles before applying Allweather Roofing Compound and a glass membrane.

Scrim Reinforcement
For bridging gaps, cracks, and deteriorated surfaces, apply a first coat of Allweather Roofing Compound at 1m² per litre. Immediately embed a rot-proof Hessian or glass membrane into the wet coating, ensuring full contact and no trapped air. Overlap by 50–75mm and secure the edges with self-adhesive flashing. Apply a second coat and allow it to dry.

Final Surface Treatment
To prevent damage, avoid leaving an exposed black bituminous surface. Apply a third coat of Allweather Roofing Compound at 1.5m² per litre and, while still tacky, cover with 1–2mm stone chippings or sharp sand. Alternatively, after weathering for at least two weeks, apply Aluminium Paint for solar reflection.

Vapour Barrier
To protect insulation from condensation, apply two coats of Allweather Roofing Compound, ensuring complete coverage on the ‘warm’ side. Once dry, insulation may be installed over it.

Cleaning Tools & Spills
Clean tools with White Spirit. Wipe minor spills before the compound sets. For larger spills, use absorbent materials like sand and dispose of them as per regulations.
