Galva Mate is ideal for sealing high-velocity ducting as well as ventilation grills, joints, and related components, ensuring airtight performance and durability.
Substrate Preparation
Ensure all surfaces are clean and free from dust. Remove any loose or flaking coatings, as well as old sealant and mastic joints, before application. The product can be applied to damp surfaces but should not be used on wet surfaces.
Application Method / Tools
When assembling ducting joints, follow the guidelines outlined by the Heating and Ventilation Contractors Association. Cut the cartridge tip carefully without damaging the thread, attach the nozzle, and trim it at a 45° angle to create an opening slightly larger than the gap to be sealed. Use a standard sealant gun, maintaining even pressure on the trigger and holding the gun at a consistent angle. Smooth the sealant within 20 minutes of application using a wetted spatula, piece of wood, or gloved finger, avoiding over-saturation of the surface to prevent delays in drying. Excess sealant can be removed with a sponge and warm water. Note that slight shrinkage occurs during curing, so overfill the joint slightly if a flush finish is desired.
Limitations
- Suitable for internal use only.
- Not recommended for areas with high abrasion or below-ground applications.
- Avoid use on surfaces that bleed oils or plasticizers.
- Do not apply in contact with bitumen or asphalt.
- Cold or damp conditions may extend the curing time.
