Before You Start
– Prepare the wood by sanding thoroughly with 120-grit paper to create a smooth surface. Wear a dust mask while sanding to avoid inhaling particles, then wipe away any dust using white spirit and allow the surface to dry completely. Stir the varnish well before use and test it on a small, hidden area first to ensure you are happy with the final finish.
Application
– Apply the varnish using a 4-inch brush, building up 3 even coats for the best protection and finish. Allow 2 hours drying time between coats and lightly sand with 240-grit paper before applying the final coat. Once finished, leave the floor for 8 hours before walking on it and wait 24 hours before replacing furniture.
Clean Up
– After use, remove excess varnish from your brush and clean it thoroughly with warm, soapy water. Avoid pouring leftover varnish down drains or into watercourses. Check with your local authority for guidance on safely disposing of any unused product.
