Ronseal Ultimate Protection Decking Stain is designed to keep your deck looking great all year round while providing durable protection against weather and everyday wear. With added slip resistance, it helps improve safety underfoot while resisting scuffs, scratches, and heavy foot traffic. The stain enhances the natural woodgrain with rich colour and offers long-lasting performance, lasting up to twice as long as standard decking stains, even through harsh winter conditions. Available in a range of 12 colours, it combines style with reliable protection.

Suitable for exterior use on ridged or smooth hardwood and softwood decking
Before You Start
– Ensure your decking is clean and free from dirt, oil, grease, wax, and silicone.
– Remove algae, moss, and mildew, then allow the decking to dry thoroughly before staining.
How to Prepare Decking for Staining
Untreated, Weathered Decking
– Apply a decking restorer to enhance the natural colour and create a suitable base for staining.
– Follow product instructions and allow the deck to dry completely before staining.
Previously Treated Decking
– Strip painted or oiled decking back to bare wood using a decking stripper.
– Do not apply a lighter stain over a darker one—strip back fully first for best results.
New Wood
– Clean with a decking cleaner and reviver or allow the wood to weather for six months.
– Rinse thoroughly, ideally with a pressure washer.
– Test for remaining treatments by sprinkling water—if it beads, repeat cleaning.
– Allow the wood to dry fully before applying stain.
Application
1. Apply in temperatures above 10 °C with a dry deck and clear weather forecast.
2. Stir thoroughly and test the colour on a hidden area before use.
3. Start in the furthest corner, applying along the length of the boards and working on 3–4 boards at a time to avoid overlap marks.
4. Apply two coats, allowing 4 hours between coats.
5. Leave for 24 hours before returning furniture to the deck.
6. Clean any stain from skin with warm soapy water.
Aftercare
Cleaning
– Sweep regularly with a stiff broom to remove dirt, leaves, and debris.
– Clean any mould or algae promptly to prevent further growth.
Repair
– Inspect decking regularly for wear or damage.
– Lightly sand affected areas and reapply a thin coat of stain as needed.
