Sika® Black Jack®-902 Bitumen & Flashing Primer is a thin, fast-drying black primer designed to provide a strong key for bitumen paints, roof coatings, and flashing applications. It is suitable for use on a wide range of substrates, including concrete roofs and floors, cementitious screeds and renders, bitumen felt, asphalt, mastic, wood, and weathered corrugated iron or steel. The primer can also be used before applying Black Jack® Flashing Tape, ensuring optimal adhesion and performance with all bituminous coatings. Its controlled film thickness allows for efficient coverage and consistent results.

LIMITATIONS
Do not use in areas where surfaces may later come into contact with solvents.
▪ Avoid inhaling vapours, particularly in confined spaces.
▪ Sika® Black Jack®-902 Bitumen & Flashing Primer is not rust inhibitive and should not be applied over rusting metal; a red oxide, zinc phosphate, or similar primer must be used first.
▪ Always test compatibility before use and allow sufficient drying time (3–6 hours depending on conditions) before overcoating.
▪ The manufacturer cannot anticipate all potential uses of the product; it is the user’s responsibility to confirm suitability. Contact the Technical Services Department for guidance if in doubt.
ECOLOGY, HEALTH AND SAFETY
Users must consult the most recent Safety Data Sheets (SDS) before using the product. The SDS provides essential guidance on safe handling, storage, disposal, and information on physical, ecological, and toxicological hazards.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
All surfaces must be dry, stable, and free from dirt, dust, grease, and loose material. Brush away water from wet surfaces and wipe dry. Repair cracks and holes using Black Jack®-903 Bitumen Trowel Mastic, and secure loose felt with Black Jack®-904 Roof Felt Adhesive. Metal surfaces should be wire-brushed to remove rust; for long-term protection, apply a rust-inhibitive product such as red lead or zinc phosphate. Remove loose or blistered paint and tar-based coatings. New galvanised surfaces should be roughened or treated with a proprietary etch primer. Clean any green growth with Sika® Mould Buster as directed before proceeding.
APPLICATION
Sika® Black Jack®-902 Bitumen & Flashing Primer is ready to use and should not be thinned. Stir thoroughly before and during application. Apply by brush or spray, ensuring the primer is well scrubbed in for a thin, even coverage. Avoid ponding or pooling when spraying. For fibre-cement or rag felt surfaces, apply generously to saturate the material.
CLEANING OF TOOLS
Clean all tools immediately after use with Sika® Wonder Wipes or white spirit. Wipe off any spillage from surfaces before the bitumen sets.
