Sika® Black Jack®-906 Bitumen Roofing Emulsion is a stable bitumen/water emulsion with a medium brushing consistency that dries to a black, flexible coating. It is designed for general waterproofing of roofs, providing protection for surfaces such as concrete, fibre/cement, roofing felt, mastic asphalt, corrugated iron, slates, tiles, lead, copper, and zinc. The product also protects metal components, including pipes and structural steelwork, against corrosion, and can serve as a vapour barrier for cold storage rooms, mushroom houses, and similar installations. Its formulation allows application to damp surfaces, is non-flammable, and can be cleaned up easily with water.
Key Points:
– Provides general waterproofing for a wide range of roof surfaces.
– Protects metal pipes, structural steelwork, and other metallic installations against corrosion.
– Can be used as a vapour barrier for insulation in cold storage and similar structures.

USES
– General waterproofing of roofs on a wide range of surfaces, including concrete, fibre/cement, roofing felt, mastic asphalt, corrugated iron, slates, tiles, lead, copper, and zinc.
– Metal protection, offering corrosion resistance for pipes, structural steelwork, and other metallic equipment.
– Insulation, acting as a vapour barrier for cold storage rooms, mushroom houses, and similar installations.
LIMITATIONS
The product may bleed through paints applied over it; a primer recommended by the paint manufacturer should be used before overpainting. Do not apply externally if rain is expected within 5 hours of application. Protect from rain and frost until fully cured (dryness can be checked by rubbing with a wet finger—no brown stain should appear). Avoid use in areas where the surface may come into contact with solvents. Allow adequate drying time between coats. As the manufacturer cannot know all possible applications, it is the user’s responsibility to determine suitability. Contact the Technical Services Department if in doubt.
ECOLOGY, HEALTH AND SAFETY
Users must consult the most recent Safety Data Sheets (SDS) before using the product. The SDS provides guidance on safe handling, storage, and disposal of the product, and includes physical, ecological, and toxicological information.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Ensure all surfaces are clean, sound, and free from dust or contaminants that could affect adhesion. Remove algae and fungi using Sika® Mouldbuster. Repair structurally unsound roofs, replacing or fixing loose slates, tiles, or felt. Fill holes or imperfections with Black Jack® 903 Bitumen Trowel Mastic, and secure loose felt with Black Jack® 904 Roof Felt Adhesive. Prime porous surfaces with Black Jack® 902 Bitumen and Flashing Primer and allow to dry before application.
APPLICATION
Stir thoroughly before use. The product is brown when applied and dries black. Apply by brush in at least two coats at 0.75 L/m², brushing coats at right angles to each other and allowing 24 hours between coats. This emulsion can be applied to damp, but not wet, surfaces. For enhanced durability, reinforce the second coat with an open woven glass fibre membrane. Overcoating with Black Jack® 907 Solar Reflective Roof Coating is recommended to extend the life of the finished surface.
CLEANING OF TOOLS
Clean all tools immediately after use with soap and water or Sika® Wonder Wipes. Use white spirit if the product has dried
