Bostik Flashband Self-Adhesive Flashing Tape is a heavy-duty, self-adhesive bitumen sealing strip that forms a strong, tear-resistant, watertight seal without the need for a separate adhesive. It is easily applied by hand and with a seam roller, with no special tools required, and remains flexible at low temperatures while resisting flow at high temperatures, increasing in strength over time. Flashband bonds to most building materials, including brick, masonry, slates, concrete roof tiles, wood, metal, terracotta tiles, roofing felt, and rigid plastics. Ideal for a wide range of construction and maintenance applications, it can repair lead flashing, act as a lead alternative, seal flat and pitched roofs, parapets, chimneys, skylights, roof ridges, valleys, and gutters, and repair damaged slates, tiles, roofing felt joints, and leaks in drainpipes and guttering.
Key Points:
– Heavy-duty, self-adhesive bitumen tape forming a strong, watertight, tear-resistant seal.
– Flexible at low temperatures, heat-resistant, and strengthens over time.
– Bonds to most building materials including metal, wood, tiles, and plastics.
– Versatile applications: roof repairs, flashing, gutters, skylights, and tile/slate repairs.
STORAGE
Store and transport securely. Keep in original, unopened packaging for up to 24 months from manufacture in cool, dry conditions between +5°C and +25°C, away from direct sunlight, and protect from frost

PREPARATION
– Ensure all surfaces are structurally sound, clean, dry, and free from contaminants such as grease, oil, rust, dirt, paint, and loose material.
– Fill gaps, hollows, or depressions greater than 3mm with a suitable filler.
– Remove organic growth like moss or lichen using Bostik Fungicidal Wash and allow the surface to dry.
– For better adhesion on porous, rough, or dusty surfaces, or in cold weather, apply Bostik Flashband Primer Emulsion or Bostik Flashband Primer S.V. (refer to separate product data sheets), allow to dry, and protect from rain or frost.
– Only coat areas that will be covered the same day; do not leave primer exposed for more than 24 hours.
– Some surfaces, including mineralised felt or textured brick, may require two primer coats, applying the second once the first has fully dried.
APPLICATION
– Adhesion may be reduced in cold weather or if Bostik Flashband is stored in cold conditions. Warm surfaces and store Flashband in a warm area overnight for easier application. Do not apply below +5°C; optimum tack is achieved up to +30°C.
– Cut Bostik Flashband to the required length, remove about 50mm of release backing, and carefully position the strip. Remove backing steadily while applying to avoid creases.
– Press the tape into position using hand pressure only. When placing adjacent strips, overlap by at least 25mm to ensure a watertight seal.
– Smooth the tape with a seam roller or rounded wood to ensure full contact, particularly on overlaps and edges.
– Flashband can be over-painted with conventional decorative paints, though slight staining may occur at the edges; test a small area first.
– Fully bonded Flashband does not allow significant joint movement; for minor movements, leave the release backing 50mm narrower than the tape along the joint, or for larger movements, use polyethylene foam under the tape.
– Consider thermal movement when sealing plastic sheets; use shorter lengths (500mm) overlapped by 25mm for long runs.
PRECAUTIONS IN USE
– Avoid embedding Flashband in cementitious mixes, and prevent contact with acidic or alkaline materials, solvents, oils, silicone sealants, flexible PVC, or vinyl.
– Do not use in areas subject to vehicular traffic or regular foot traffic, or on polycarbonate or acrylic glazing.
– When warming, do not heat the foil side or overheat/melt the bitumen.
– Some batch-to-batch color variation may occur; if aesthetics are critical, check roll color and batch numbers. Foil color may change over time, but this does not affect performance.
