Cromar 1F U/Slating 22.5kg (15 × 1m) is a traditional bitumen-based underlay used in pitched roofing systems to provide an additional protective layer beneath slates or tiles. It is designed to act as a secondary weather barrier, helping to prevent wind-driven rain, dust, and snow from penetrating the roof structure while still allowing the roof to breathe when installed correctly. Supplied in a durable 22.5 kg roll measuring approximately 1 m wide by 15 m long, it is commonly used in both new roof installations and refurbishment projects. The underlay is laid horizontally across rafters before the slates or tiles are fixed, improving the overall durability and weather resistance of the roof covering.
Cromar 1F U/Slating is a cold-applied, fibre-reinforced bituminous compound designed for bedding, pointing, and bonding roof slates and tiles, as well as for general roof repairs. It is commonly used to secure ridge tiles, bond slates in place, and seal minor cracks or joints in roofing materials. The product is ready to use and can be applied directly with a trowel or spatula onto clean, dry surfaces such as slate, tile, concrete, metal, and bituminous roofing. During application, surfaces should be free from dust, grease, loose materials, or standing water to ensure proper adhesion. It is particularly useful for maintenance and repair work where a flexible, weather-resistant bond is required.
However, Cromar 1F U/Slating has certain limitations. It is not intended for large-scale waterproofing systems, structural bonding, or areas subject to constant immersion in water. Application should be avoided during heavy rain, frost, or extremely cold conditions, as low temperatures can affect curing and adhesion. The product should also not be applied to surfaces that are heavily contaminated, saturated, or unstable.
