DOWSIL™ Construction Primer P is a one-part, proprietary alkoxy silane resin adhesion promoter designed to enhance the bond of silicone sealants to masonry, stone, concrete, glass fibre-reinforced concrete, and properly prepared metal surfaces, including Kynar resin painted aluminium. The primer forms a durable film that resists degradation from water immersion and ensures long-lasting adhesion even in areas with residual moisture, such as horizontal applications. Its formulation is convenient to use and does not discolour when exposed to sunlight, making it suitable for both interior and exterior construction projects where reliable silicone sealant performance is required.

Usable Life and Storage
When kept in the original, unopened containers, DOWSIL™ Construction Primer P has a shelf life of 18 months from the date of manufacture. Always check the product packaging for the “Use By” date. Store the primer between 5 and 25°C (41–77°F) in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. Ensure containers are tightly sealed when not in use.

DOWSIL™ Construction Primer P is suitable for use on substrates such as natural stone, masonry and glass fiber-reinforced concrete. Also suitable for metal substrates, such as Kynar resin painted aluminium, when properly prepared.
Preparation Work
Porous surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from contaminants. Use abrasive cleaning methods followed by compressed air to remove dust, ensuring the air is moisture- and oil-free. Nonporous surfaces should be cleaned with a solvent using the two-rag wipe method as described in the current Americas Technical Manual.
Application
Apply a thin, even layer of primer by brush, avoiding areas that will not be sealed. Allow the primer to air dry for at least 30 minutes until it is dry to the touch. Sealant should be applied within 8 hours of primer application.
Equipment Cleanup
Clean brushes immediately after use by soaking in DOWSIL™ OS-2 Silicone Cleaner and Solvent or another suitable solvent, following the solvent manufacturer’s safe handling instructions and relevant regulations.
Handling Precautions
Before use, read the product Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and container labels for safe handling, storage, and health hazard information. The SDS is available on Dow’s website, through your Dow sales application engineer, distributor, or by contacting Dow Customer Service.
Limitations
DOWSIL™ Construction Primer P may prevent proper curing of certain DOWSIL™ construction sealants due to the alcohol content in the primer. Do not use this primer with the sealants listed below unless the application procedure and drying time confirm that the sealant and primer combination will fully cure:
