Suitable for:
– High-performance glazing silicone forming a flexible, durable, and weathertight seal
– Suitable for all classical glazing joints, including cap beads
– Ideal for shop windows, display cases, conservatories, and greenhouses
– Can be used on glass panels
Priming
– GS300 exhibits excellent primerless adhesion to many common construction materials, including glass, tiles, ceramics, enamel, varnished or painted wood, and some plastics.
– For special cases or if in doubt, contact the tremco illbruck Technical Services Department for guidance.
Joint Design Considerations
– Design joints according to BS 6093.
– Maximum Allowable Factor (MAF) of GS300 for joint width calculation is 25%.
– Maintain a width-to-depth ratio of 2:1; sealant width should never be less than sealant depth.
– Minimum contact area with any substrate, including fillet joints, should be determined by bond quality. Contact tremco illbruck if uncertain.
Surface Preparation
1. Ensure joint faces are clean, dry, and free from dust, oil, grease, old sealant, or any contaminants affecting adhesion. Remove any previous sealant mechanically.
2. Clean surfaces using the two-cloth method: one cloth dampened with suitable cleaning solvent to lift contaminants, followed by a dry cloth to remove residue.
3. Apply masking tape to protect adjacent surfaces.
4. Contact tremco illbruck Technical Services Department for further advice if needed.
Joint Backing
– Fill deep joints with approved materials such as FM330 or FM365 PU Foam.
– For movement joints, use polyethylene joint backing to control sealant depth and prevent three-sided adhesion.
Application
1. Conduct a test application to confirm compatibility and suitability before full installation.
2. Apply in accordance with BS 8000:16 – “Code of practice for sealing joints in buildings using sealants.”
3. Use a conventional skeleton gun or electric/power equipment at temperatures between +5°C and +40°C.
4. Tool all beads immediately to ensure full, firm contact with joint faces; start tooling without delay due to rapid skinning.
Cleaning
– Remove excess sealant immediately using AT200 High Strength Cleaner, ensuring surfaces are solvent-resistant.
– Once cured, sealant can only be removed mechanically.
