Before You Start
– Proper preparation is essential to ensure the best finish and strong adhesion.
– Apply when temperatures are above 10 °C; although low odour, additional ventilation is recommended.
– Protect surrounding areas with dust sheets, as the paint is drip-resistant but not spill-proof.
How to Prepare Bare Wood for Painting
– Sand the surface with 120 grit sandpaper in the direction of the grain for a smooth finish.
– Allow dust to settle, then clean with white spirit and a cloth.
– Apply a knot blocker to prevent staining and fill any cracks or holes for an even surface.
How to Prepare Previously Painted Wood
– If the existing paint is in good condition, lightly sand with 240 grit sandpaper and apply a primer and undercoat.
– If paint is flaking or peeling, sand back to bare wood using 120 grit sandpaper (an electric sander is recommended).
– Clean away dust with white spirit and a cloth.
– Treat knots and fill any cracks or holes to create a smooth surface.
Application
1. Stir thoroughly to achieve a smooth consistency.
2. Apply using a synthetic brush, working in the direction of the wood grain.
3. Allow the first coat to dry for 4 hours.
4. Apply a second coat in the same way; this will be touch dry in 30 minutes.
Aftercare
Cleaning
– Clean painted surfaces as normal to maintain the finish and keep the colour looking fresh.
Repair
– For any damage, lightly sand the affected area and reapply a couple of coats to restore the finish.
