Ronseal Wet Rot Wood Hardener is specially formulated to strengthen and stabilise wood that has been damaged by wet rot. Designed for use after removing loose and rotten timber, this fast-acting solution penetrates deep into the wood fibres, hardening them and restoring structural integrity. Ideal for both interior and exterior repairs, it creates a solid base for fillers, paints, or further treatment, helping to extend the life of affected wood and prevent further deterioration. Easy to apply with a brush, the hardener dries quickly and is an essential step in any effective wet rot repair.

Application

Preparation: Remove all loose, flaky, or severely decayed wood using a chisel or scraper. Ensure the area is clean and free from dust, grease, and surface contaminants.

Drying: Although suitable for timber affected by wet rot, the wood should be as dry as possible before application for best penetration.

Application method: Apply generously using a brush, allowing the liquid to soak into the wood. For very soft timber, apply multiple coats until the wood is fully saturated.

Drying time: Allow to dry thoroughly (typically several hours, depending on conditions) before applying wood filler, paint, or other finishes.

Finishing: Once hardened, the treated area can be filled, sanded, painted, or varnished as required.
Limitations

Not suitable for structural repairs: Will not restore load-bearing or severely rotten timber; badly damaged wood should be replaced.

Moisture source must be fixed: Does not stop wet rot unless the underlying moisture problem (leaks, condensation, poor ventilation) is resolved.

Surface use only: Not designed for use where wood is permanently submerged or constantly saturated with water.

Limited effectiveness on advanced decay: Timber that has turned crumbly or lost most of its integrity may not harden sufficiently.

Ventilation required: Use in well-ventilated areas and follow all safety instructions on the label.
