Sika® Black Jack®-908 D.P.M. is a ready-to-use, rubber-reinforced bitumen emulsion designed to create an effective sandwich damp-proof membrane for floors, while also providing reliable waterproofing for walls, above-ground structures and foundations. In addition to its moisture-resistant performance, it works as an adhesive for wood blocks, mosaic panels, insulation boards, expanded polystyrene and cork, and serves as a dependable bonding agent for plaster applied to difficult surfaces such as glazed tiles. The product can also be used for waterproofing structural elements like bridge abutments, retaining walls and culverts, as well as functioning as a curing agent for concrete. It forms a strong water and vapour barrier, offers versatility for internal and external applications, and features low-hazard, water-cleanable handling with minimal odour once cured.

LIMITATIONS
Do not apply if rain is expected within 5 hours of application. Protect from rain and frost until the coating is fully cured (the coating is dry when rubbing with a wet finger produces no brown stain). Avoid use in areas where subsequent solvent contact is likely and allow sufficient drying time between coats. Bitumen may bleed through other paints; always apply a primer recommended by the paint manufacturer before overpainting. This product is not a replacement for a DPC and should ideally be used in conjunction with one. Gloss, oil, or alkyd-based paints must not be applied directly over Sika® Black Jack®-908 D.P.M. The user is responsible for determining suitability for specific applications. For advice, contact the Technical Services Department.
ECOLOGY, HEALTH AND SAFETY
Users must read the latest Safety Data Sheets (SDS) before using the product. The SDS contains guidance on safe handling, storage, and disposal, as well as information on physical, ecological, and toxicological hazards.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Stir well before use. Surfaces should be clean, touch-dry, sound, and free from contaminants. Concrete must be smooth-finished with a wooden float; tamped surfaces are unsuitable. Prime porous surfaces with SikaBond® SBR+ diluted 1:4 with water and allow to dry. All work should comply with BS Code of Practice 102:1973 – Protection of Buildings from the Ground. Where green growth is present, clean with Sika® Mouldbuster.
APPLICATION
DAMP-PROOFING FLOORS
Apply a minimum of 2 coats by brush, 0.8 L/m² per coat, carrying treatment up walls to meet the existing DPC. Allow the first coat to dry before applying the second at right angles. Once dry, cover with a 50 mm sand/cement or concrete screed.
WATERPROOFING WALLS
Exterior walls: Level uneven surfaces with cement mortar. Apply 3 coats at 0.5 L/m² per coat, allowing each coat to dry. Blind the final coat with clean, sharp sand.
Interior walls (moderately damp): Remove wallpaper and loose paint, repair damaged plaster, lightly dampen, and apply 3 coats at 0.5 L/m² per coat. Leave a 300 mm horizontal strip uncoated at the top to allow moisture escape.
Interior walls (very damp): Ideally treat externally. If not possible, remove old plaster, repair damaged joints, and apply 3 coats at 0.5 L/m² per coat. Once dry, replaster the wall.
DECORATING
Do not use gloss, oil, or alkyd paints over Sika® Black Jack®-908 D.P.M. Over plastered areas, hang lining paper with cellulose paste. Vinyl-coated papers or paper-backed vinyls must not be used.
WATERPROOFING STRUCTURES
Provides a waterproof membrane for bridge abutments, retaining walls, culverts, and foundations. Can also act as a curing membrane for green concrete. Apply 2 coats at 0.5 L/m² on clean, dampened surfaces if necessary.
FIXING WOOD BLOCKS AND MOSAICS
For wood blocks ≥12 mm, dip the bottom face in the product and place immediately. Coverage ≈1.1 L/m². For wood mosaic panels, spread at 0.8 L/m² and position immediately. Allow ≥24 hours before sanding or trafficking. For underfloor heating, turn off 48 hours before and after tiling. On low/non-porous surfaces, allow 30–40 minutes partial drying before placement. Never lay over existing floor coverings.
PLASTER/RENDER BONDING/KEYING
For bonding plaster or renders to difficult substrates, apply 2 coats at ≥0.25 L/m² per coat, blind the second coat with clean, dry sand, and allow ≥48 hours before plastering/rendering. For decorative gloss or alkyd finishes, ensure a total plaster thickness of ≥15 mm.
FIXING INSULATION BOARD, EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE, AND CORK SLABS
Ensure surfaces are clean, level, and dust-free. Apply a coat to the porous base and place insulation while still wet. Support boards until set if necessary.
CLEANING OF TOOLS
Clean tools immediately after use with soap and water or Sika® Wonder Wipes. For dried material, use white spirit
