SikaSeal® Lead is a low-modulus, neutral-curing sealant specially formulated to provide excellent adhesion to soft metals, including lead and brass. Designed as an alternative to traditional mortar for fixing lead flashing and sheet into brick, stone and concrete, it offers outstanding flexibility, weather resistance and minimal shrinkage. Its non-corrosive formula protects soft metals while providing reliable performance across a wide temperature range. Certified to EN 15651 for façade applications, including interior, exterior and cold climate conditions, in accordance with the Construction Products Regulation.

LIMITATIONS

Do not use with bitumen, asphalt, neoprene or certain organic elastomers.

Do not apply to substrates that may release oils, solvents or plasticisers.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
-
Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from dust, grease and other contaminants.
-
Priming is generally not required, but testing a small area before use is recommended.
APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS
-
Ensure the joint depth is at least 5 mm.
-
Maintain a minimum joint width of 6 mm.
-
Ensure the joint depth does not exceed its width, as this can reduce movement capability.
-
For optimal movement accommodation:
-
Joints up to 10 mm wide should have a depth of 5 mm.
-
Joints over 10 mm wide should have a depth of half the width, up to 20 mm.
-
For wider joints, maintain a minimum depth of 10 mm.
-
-
The maximum joint width without slumping is 40 mm.
-
For wider joints when sealing lead flashing into concrete walls, secure the lead with stainless steel screws and plugs before applying the sealant.
-
Design joints to prevent water retention or water traps.
-
Triangular fillets should measure at least 12 mm across the face and have a flat or convex finish.
-
Cut the cartridge tip carefully without damaging the thread, then fit the nozzle.
-
Cut the nozzle at a 45° angle, with an opening slightly larger than the joint.
-
Apply using a standard sealant gun, maintaining even trigger pressure and a consistent angle.
-
Smooth the sealant with a spatula or piece of wood to ensure proper adhesion.
-
For a neat finish, apply masking tape to both sides of the joint and remove within 5 minutes of application.
CLEANING OF TOOLS
-
Remove uncured sealant using white spirit or Sika® Wonder Wipes.
-
Remove cured sealant using EVERBUILD® Silicone Eater.
