General
For general information on construction of movement joints
in tiling, reference should be made to BS5385: parts 1 – 5
Before sealing, ensure that:
The surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease and
contaminants that affect adhesion.
– Non-porous surfaces should be degreased using white
spirit or non-oily solvents.
– Wood should be painted.
– NOT suitable for use in Aquaria with lime-based cements
and mortars or copper-based metals. Do not apply to
wet surfaces.

This sealant is designed for sealing movement joints in both floor and wall installations. It can be applied to a wide range of surfaces, including sanitary, acrylic, fibreglass, glass, glazed, porcelain, and painted materials, in both dry and wet interior and exterior environments. When correctly used and applied, the bond remains durable and resistant to weathering, UV radiation, and water immersion.
General
For guidance on constructing movement joints in tiling, refer to BS5385: parts 1–5. Before sealing, ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and other contaminants that could affect adhesion. Non-porous surfaces should be degreased using white spirit or non-oily solvents, and wood should be painted. This sealant is not suitable for aquaria containing lime-based cements or mortars, or for copper-based metals. Do not apply to wet surfaces.
Application
Recommended maximum joint width/depth: 6 mm; for most movement joints, use a 6 mm × 6 mm cross-section.
Cut the tip of the cartridge, leaving enough screw thread to attach the nozzle.
Cut the cartridge nozzle to the required width and angle.
Place the cartridge in a caulking gun and apply a steady bead of BAL Micromax Grout Effect Sealant to the joint.
Tool the surface of the sealant within 15 minutes of application. Maximum matt finish is achieved with a single smoothing; repeated smoothing reduces the matt effect.
Smooth the silicone using a wet silicone tool or spatula. A diluted soap or detergent solution may be used as a lubricant, but excessive use can affect adhesion at joint edges.
Clean tools immediately after use with a degreasing solvent.
Remove masking tape immediately after tooling, before the surface skins over, to ensure neat edges.
Allow the sealant to cure, approximately 24 hours per 3 mm of thickness.
