BAL Priming Slurry Bond is a highly polymer-modified, cement-based priming slurry designed to deliver exceptional bond strength when fixing natural stone and porcelain tiles or pavers externally onto BAL Bedding Mortar. Quick and easy to use, it simply requires mixing with water and can also be used to prepare backgrounds prior to receiving mortar beds. Applied wet-on-wet using a trowel, brush, or roller to a minimum thickness of 2mm, the slurry should be applied to the substrate, the top of the bedding mortar, and the back of the tile, slab, or paver. Offering excellent coverage of up to 8m² at 2mm thickness, BAL Priming Slurry Bond ensures a strong, reliable bond for durable external installations.

PREPARATION
General
External pavers and tiles should be installed at least 150mm below the damp proof course of any adjacent building, except where level access is required at doorways (e.g. for disabled access). Use a taut string line or temporary chalk line to guide installation. All external paving must be free from standing or pooling water, typically achieved by forming a fall in one direction to direct surface water towards a suitable outlet such as a gully, linear drain, or the edge of a terrace or patio, and away from buildings wherever possible. A stable base is essential for all external pavers and tiles; refer to the relevant Technical Data Sheet for further guidance.
MIXING
Mix one 20kg bag with approximately 6.4 litres of clean water. Mix thoroughly until a smooth, pourable consistency is achieved, then allow the mortar to stand for 1–2 minutes before re-mixing for 30 seconds. When using an electric drill mixer, operate at slow speed (under 300rpm). The mixed product is ready for immediate use, with a pot life of approximately 60 minutes at 20°C. Use only at temperatures above 5°C and rising. Working and setting times will vary with temperature—higher temperatures reduce working time, while lower temperatures extend it.
APPLICATION ONTO CONCRETE SUBSTRATES
Before applying BAL Priming Slurry Bond, ensure the concrete substrate is fully cured (minimum six weeks) and free from efflorescence, laitance, dirt, polished surfaces, and other contaminants. Remove any barriers to adhesion using appropriate mechanical preparation methods. Apply BAL Priming Slurry Bond to the prepared concrete using a trowel, roller, or brush to a minimum thickness of 2mm, then immediately apply BAL Bedding Mortar onto the wet slurry.
INSTALLATION OF PAVER/TILE
Apply BAL Priming Slurry Bond to the wet BAL Bedding Mortar (within its working time) using a trowel, roller, or brush to a minimum thickness of 2mm. Immediately coat the back of each paver or tile with BAL Priming Slurry Bond to a thickness of 1–2mm, ensuring 100% coverage, before fixing into the wet mortar. Adjust tiles as required and tap into position using a rubber mallet, maintaining a minimum joint width of 3mm between tiles.
