Bostik S31 Neutral Cure Sanitary Silicone Sealant is a professional-grade, neutral cure silicone designed for sealing sanitary joints exposed to moisture, humidity, and potential corrosion. It adheres well to a variety of surfaces and cures under humidity, making it ideal for baths, sinks, toilets, showers, and kitchen furniture. The sealant features a mould-resistant formulation, is low modulus, and provides up to 25% movement capability, ensuring durable, flexible joints. It is ISEGA certified for safe use in food storage and preparation areas, GEV EMICODE EC1 PLUS certified for very low emissions, and suitable for both interior and exterior use. The product is supplied in a post-consumer recycled (PCR) cartridge.
Key Points:
– +/- 25% flexibility for movement absorption
– Mould resistant and low modulus
– Safe for food contact (ISEGA certified) and very low emissions (GEV EMICODE EC1 PLUS)
– Suitable for interior and exterior use, supplied in a PCR cartridge
PREPARATION
– Work in warm, well-ventilated conditions.
– Ensure all necessary materials are ready before starting.
– Joint surfaces must be clean, dry, sound, and free from dust, loose material, or any contaminants that may affect adhesion.
– If desired, apply masking tape along joint edges for a neat finish. Use a round-ended spatula to tool the sealant and ensure it catches excess material between the masking tape.
– Perform a trial run without sealant to familiarise yourself with difficult areas, such as corners, behind taps, or raised joints.
APPLICATION
1. Unscrew the nozzle and carefully pierce the dome of the cartridge with a sharp knife, avoiding damage to the thread. Attach the nozzle to the cartridge.
2. Cut the nozzle tip at a 45° angle to match the gap width.
3. Insert the cartridge into a caulking gun, pressing the release plate and pulling out the plunger. Squeeze the trigger until the sealant appears.
4. Position the nozzle at the start of the joint and squeeze the trigger slowly, ensuring full contact with both sides of the gap. Release the trigger at the end and press the plunger release plate to stop flow.
5. Ensure the joint depth is correctly proportioned to the width to absorb building movements.
6. For joints up to 10 mm wide, maintain a 1:1 depth-to-width ratio, with a minimum of 5 mm depth and width.
7. For joints wider than 10 mm, depth = (width ÷ 3) + 6 mm.
8. Smooth the sealant with a wet, round-ended tool (do not use a finger). Remove excess with a cloth moistened with white spirit, then remove masking tape if used.
9. In damp or wet conditions, tool the sealant to allow water runoff.
10. After use, clean the nozzle and replace the cap.
11. The sealant skins over in approximately 8 minutes and fully cures in about 24 hours, depending on bead size, temperature, and humidity.
CLEANING
Uncured Sealant: Remove excess with a soft scraper and wipe remaining residue with a cloth moistened with white spirit or soapy water. Repeat as needed.
Cured Sealant: Cut away excess with a sharp knife. Do not use solvents on skin—wash with soap and water.
Regular Cleaning: Clean periodically to maintain appearance. Avoid bleach-based products, as they can degrade the fungicidal additive.
PAINTABILITY
This material is not paintable. Use masking tape along joint edges to protect adjacent surfaces during application.
