Application
Ensure that surfaces to be sealed are clean, dry, sound, and free from frost. Remove all contaminants such as release agents, water repellents, laitance, dust, dirt, and old sealants that could impair adhesion. Non-porous surfaces should be cleaned and degreased with a suitable solvent, such as Geocel Surface Cleaner, using an oil- and lint-free cloth before applying the sealant. Porous substrates should be mechanically cleaned using a steel brush, sanding disc, or similar tools. When using any solvent, ensure adequate ventilation, avoid heat, sparks, and open flames, wear solvent-resistant gloves, and follow all precautions listed on the solvent container label.
Limitations
Geocel® HM Silicone Sealant should not be used on bituminous substrates, natural rubber, chloroprene, EPDM, or building materials that may bleed oils, plasticisers, or solvents. It is unsuitable for totally confined spaces, as the sealant requires atmospheric moisture to cure. During curing, acetic acid is released, which can corrode mirror silver and sensitive metals such as copper, brass, and lead. The sealant is also not recommended for submerged joints, sensitive stones, joints exposed to physical abuse or abrasion, or for food contact applications. Additionally, it should not be applied to surfaces below 5°C (41°F), as a dry surface cannot be guaranteed at these temperatures.
