ME501 VV is a high-strength, tear-resistant membrane made from polyethylene copolymer film with a non-woven fabric and self-adhesive backing for easy and reliable application. Suitable for use before or after window installation, it provides effective weathertight and airtight sealing for both domestic and commercial projects. The split-release adhesive liner ensures strong bonding to most construction substrates, while the durable fleece layer protects against weather and mechanical damage. With no need for solvent-based adhesives, it offers a safer installation process, along with intelligent moisture management, UV stability, and compliance with recognised industry standards.

For use as an external weather tight seal in conjunction with ME508 Duo Membrane EW/F as an internal airtight seal.
Preparation
– ME501 VV adheres well to a range of substrates including masonry, concrete, PVC, metal, wood, and solid or laminated insulation materials.
– Ensure all adhesive bond areas are dry and free from oil, grease, dust, or other contaminants. Clean using AW115, AW414, or AW421 Cleaner, taking care with sensitive surfaces.
Primer
– ME501 VV can often be applied without a primer; however, for best results, use ME901 or AT140 paint-on primers.
– Use AT140 Primer in temperatures below 5 °C, on friable substrates (allowing for flash-off time), or in slightly damp conditions (AT140 or ME901).
– Suitable for bonding to EPS/XPS materials without solvent damage; if required, use ME904 solvent-free acrylic copolymer primer.
– Always refer to the relevant technical and safety datasheets before use.
Application
– Bond ME501 VV to the weather sheathing board or similar layer behind the external wall skin. If a breather membrane is already in place, cut it back to allow direct bonding to the sheathing board. Ensure all bonding areas are clean and free from debris or contaminants that may affect adhesion, such as excess silicone or fire-rated compounds.
– Silicone-based sealants and fire-rated compounds used at sheathing board joints can prevent proper adhesion. In such cases, apply AT140 Primer and carry out the necessary surface preparation—consult a CPG UK representative for guidance if required.
