SikaCeram-140 Rapid Set is a fast-setting, water-resistant tile adhesive designed for bonding ceramic and mosaic tiles to both floors and walls. Ideal for both thick and thin bed applications, it is perfect for situations where same-day fixing is required. The adhesive is suitable for both internal and external use and can be grouted 1-2 hours after fixing under normal room temperatures. Compatible with a wide range of substrates, including cement, concrete, plasterboard, chipboard, and timber, this product offers excellent adhesion and versatility.

Sikaceram-140 is suitable for both interior and exterior applications, this adhesive is ideal for securing floor and wall tiles to most surfaces, including heavy-duty areas with high foot traffic. It is perfect for tiling domestic, communal, and power showers, as well as areas that are occasionally wet but not fully immersed.
APPLICATION
Substrate Quality / Pre-Treatment:
- Concrete/Screeds/Renders: Allow fresh concrete to dry for at least 4 weeks before tiling. Prime with SikaBond® PVA+ diluted 3 parts water to 1 part PVA Bond and allow to dry.
- Timber Floors/Floorboards: Suitable for interior floors only. Ensure proper ventilation beneath floors and cover with plywood or chipboard (at least 12 mm thick, moisture-resistant). Secure with screws at 150 mm intervals. Prime with SikaBond® SBR+ diluted 1:3. Mix adhesive with SikaBond® SBR+ diluted 1:1 with water.
- Softwood Tongue and Groove Boarding: Boards must be screwed down to joists at 300 mm centres, sealed with SikaBond® SBR+ (1:3 dilution). Mix adhesive with neat SikaBond® SBR+ for long-term flexibility.
- Existing Tiling: Ensure tiles are securely bonded to walls. Roughen glazed tile surfaces, apply a bonding coat of neat SikaBond® PVA+, and mix adhesive with SikaBond® SBR+ diluted 1:1 with water. Apply adhesive while bonding coat is still tacky.
Mixing:
Add SikaCeram®-140 Rapid Set to clean water, using 3 parts powder to 1 part water (4:1 by weight). Mix to a slump-free mortar. Always add powder to water.
Application:
- Spread adhesive to a depth of 6 mm, then comb to 3 mm to create a solid bed with 3 mm ribs.
- Work in areas no larger than 1 m² or for 20 minutes at a time.
- Press tiles firmly into place with a slight twisting action. Tile positions can be adjusted within 20 minutes after initial fixing.
- Leave at least a 3 mm grout joint unless using self-spacing tiles.
- Clean surface adhesive from tiles with a moist cloth and rake out excessive adhesive from joints before setting.
- The open time for exposed adhesive is approx. 30-45 minutes, depending on surface porosity and site conditions.
- Initial set occurs in 1-2 hours, fully hardening in approx. 24 hours. Allow tiles to remain undisturbed for a minimum of 2 hours.
- Note: Do not use below +4°C.
Grouting:
Allow 3-4 hours before grouting or when tiles are firm enough for light foot traffic. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for tile protection and sealing before and after grouting.
Cleaning Tools:
Clean all equipment with water immediately after use.
