It penetrates deeply into the wood to provide preventative protection and can be applied by brush, spray, or dipping on clean, dry timber. However, its use is limited to bare or previously untreated wood, as it does not form a decorative or waterproof finish and must be overcoated if weather resistance or aesthetic appearance is required. It is not intended for structural repair of already decayed timber, nor for surfaces in constant contact with water or soil, and proper ventilation and safety precautions are necessary during application due to its solvent content.
