Sikaflex®-521 UV adheres well to a wide range of substrates and is suitable for elastic sealing and bonding applications.
Compatible substrate materials include:
– Timber
– Metals
– Metal primers and paint coatings (2-component systems)
– Ceramic materials
– Plastics
– Suitable for both internal and external sealing applications.
Manufacturer’s advice should be sought, and testing carried out on original substrates, before use on materials susceptible to stress cracking.
Intended for use by experienced professional users only.
Adhesion and material compatibility must be verified through testing under actual substrate and application conditions.
Surface Preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, and dust.
Surface preparation depends on the type of substrate and is essential to achieving a durable, long-lasting bond. Recommended preparation methods are provided in the current edition of the appropriate Sika® Pre-Treatment Chart. These recommendations are based on experience and must be verified by testing on the original substrates.
Application
Sikaflex®-521 UV can be applied at temperatures between 5 °C and 40 °C. However, changes in reactivity and application characteristics should be taken into account. The optimal temperature range for both the substrate and the adhesive sealant is between 15 °C and 25 °C.
Sikaflex®-521 UV can be applied using hand-operated, pneumatic, or electric piston guns, as well as pump equipment. For guidance on selecting and setting up suitable pump systems, contact the System Engineering Department of Sika Industry.
Tooling and finishing
Tooling and finishing must be completed within the skin-formation time of the sealant. The use of Sika® Tooling Agent N is recommended. Any alternative finishing agents must be tested in advance to ensure suitability and compatibility.
Removal
Uncured Sikaflex®-521 UV can be removed from tools and equipment using Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once cured, the material can only be removed mechanically. Hands and exposed skin must be cleaned immediately using Sika® Cleaner-350H cleaning towels or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water.
Do not use solvents on skin.
