BOSTIK A80 ACRYLIC is a professional-grade, instantly paintable decorator’s caulk developed for fast sealing of connection joints between stairs, walls, ceilings, skirting boards, windowsills, and masonry where rapid overpainting is required. It provides strong adhesion to a wide range of common construction materials and is suitable for filling screw and nail holes in wood, plaster, gypsum, and concrete. Its advanced formulation minimises paint discolouration and reduces the risk of cracking or crazing due to low shrinkage during curing. Easy to tool and clean with water, BOSTIK A80 ACRYLIC is a sustainable, low-VOC, phthalate-free solution.
Key points
– Instantly paintable decorator’s caulk for rapid finishing
– Excellent adhesion to common building materials
– Low shrinkage reduces paint cracking and discolouration
– Water clean-up, low VOC and phthalate free
PREPARATION
– Apply in warm, well-ventilated conditions between +5 °C and +40 °C.
– Ensure all required materials and tools are available before starting.
– Joint surfaces must be clean, sound, and free from dust, loose material, or contaminants that may affect adhesion. Absorbent substrates do not need to be completely dry.
– Highly porous substrates such as gypsum, aerated concrete, and limestone should be primed using a mixture of 1 part BOSTIK A80 ACRYLIC to 2 parts water. Always carry out an adhesion test before application.
If required, apply masking tape along joint edges to achieve a neat finish and prevent contamination of adjacent surfaces. Tool the caulk using a round-ended spatula, ensuring it fully fills the joint.
Carry out a dry test run without applying caulk to familiarise yourself with difficult areas such as corners or raised joints.
APPLICATION
– Unscrew the nozzle and carefully cut off the cartridge dome using a sharp knife, taking care not to damage the thread. Refit the nozzle.
– Cut the nozzle at a 45° angle to match the width of the joint.
– Insert the cartridge into a sealant gun by pressing the release plate and pulling back the plunger. Squeeze the trigger until caulk begins to flow.
– Position the nozzle at the start of the joint and apply steady pressure while moving forward slowly, ensuring the caulk contacts both sides of the joint. Release the trigger and press the plunger release plate at the end of the bead.
– Correct joint dimensions are essential to accommodate movement. Joint depth must be proportionate to joint width; a backer rod may be used if required.
– For joints up to 10 mm wide, use a depth-to-width ratio of 1:1, with a minimum width and depth of 5 mm.
– For joints wider than 10 mm, joint depth should be one-third of the width plus 6 mm.
– Within the product’s working time, smooth the caulk using a wet, round-ended tool (do not use a finger). Remove excess material with a damp cloth and remove masking tape immediately if used.
– Clean excess caulk from the nozzle after use and replace the cap if applicable.
– The caulk skins over in approximately 2 minutes and cures at around 1 mm per 24 hours, depending on bead size, temperature, and humidity.
CLEANING
Uncured Caulk:
Remove excess material mechanically using a soft scraper. Remaining residue can be wiped away with a cloth lightly moistened with water. Repeat with a clean damp cloth if required.
Cured Caulk:
Carefully remove cured material using a sharp knife. Do not use solvents on skin—clean tools and hands with soap and water.
PAINTABILITY
BOSTIK A80 ACRYLIC can be painted with water-based and synthetic paints on small joints. On wider joints, paint cracking may occur. Compatibility testing with the chosen paint is recommended before application.
