BOSTIK FP403 FIRESEAL HYBRID is a professional, one-component fire resistant sealant designed for sealing connection and expansion joints in construction, preventing the spread of fire, smoke, and toxic gases. Suitable for up to 4 hours of fire resistant protection in linear joints, including wall-to-ceiling and wall-to-floor connections, it features high modulus, excellent sound insulation, UV and weather resistance, flexibility, and paintability. Ideal for both interior and exterior use, it adheres well to a wide range of construction materials and is certified for horizontal joints, floor/ceiling-to-wall connections, wooden and steel frames, stony substrates, and metal stud applications. Compliant with BS EN 1366-4, it provides fire resistance for up to 240 minutes in joints up to 30 mm wide, while being sustainable and low VOC.
Key Points:
– Fire resistant for up to 4 hours in linear joints
– High modulus, flexible, and paintable with sound insulation
– Suitable for interior and exterior use on various substrates and frames
– Compliant with BS EN 1366-4 and low VOC/sustainable formulation
PREPARATION
– Work in well-ventilated conditions at temperatures between +5°C and +40°C.
– Ensure all necessary materials and tools are prepared before starting.
– Joint surfaces must be clean, sound, dry, and free from dust, loose material, or other contaminants that could affect adhesion.
– Very porous substrates such as gypsum, aerated concrete, and limestone should be primed before application. Always test adhesion prior to use.
– Masking tape can be applied along joint edges to help achieve a neat finish and protect nearby surfaces. Use a round-ended spatula to tool the sealant and ensure it fits properly in the joint, catching any excess.
– Perform a test run without sealant to familiarize yourself with challenging areas, such as corners or raised joints.
APPLICATION
1. Unscrew the nozzle, carefully cut off the dome of the cartridge with a sharp knife without damaging the thread, and attach the nozzle.
2. Cut the tapered end of the nozzle at a 45° angle to match the width of the joint.
3. Insert the cartridge into a cartridge gun, press the release plate, pull out the plunger, and squeeze the trigger until the sealant appears.
4. Position the nozzle at the start of the joint and apply slowly, ensuring the sealant contacts both sides of the gap. Release the trigger at the end and press the plunger release plate to stop flow.
5. Correct joint dimensions are essential for absorbing movements. The joint depth should always relate properly to the width.
6. For joints up to 10 mm wide, maintain a 1:1 depth-to-width ratio, with a minimum of 5 mm. For joints wider than 10 mm, the depth should equal the width divided by 3 plus 6 mm.
7. Within the working time, smooth the sealant with a wet, round-ended tool (avoid using a wetted finger), remove excess with a wet cloth, and peel off masking tape if used.
8. In damp or wet environments, tool the sealant to allow water to run off the surface.
9. After use, clean excess from the nozzle and replace the cap.
10. The sealant skins over in approximately 10 minutes and cures at 2–3 mm per 24 hours depending on bead width, temperature, and humidity.
CLEANING
Uncured Sealant: Remove excess mechanically with a soft scraper, then wipe with a cloth moistened with water. Repeat as needed.
Cured Sealant: Carefully cut away excess with a sharp knife. Avoid solvents on skin—use soap and water for tools and hands.
PAINTABILITY
Bostik FP403 FIRESEAL HYBRID is paintable with water-based and synthetic paints when fully dry in small dimension joints. For wider joints, paint cracking may occur, so compatibility testing is recommended before application.
