Before You Start
– Ensure the room temperature is above 10°C, remove furniture, and ventilate by opening doors and windows.
Wear a mask when sanding to avoid inhaling dust.
How to Prepare Unvarnished Floors
– Sand along the grain of the floorboards using 120 grit sandpaper (a floor sander is recommended for ease).
– Allow dust to settle, vacuum thoroughly, then wipe with white spirit.
– Fill any holes or imperfections with a suitable wood filler.
How to Prepare Varnished Floors
– Lightly sand with 120 grit sandpaper; if varnish is flaking, sand back to bare wood using a floor sander.
– Remove dust by vacuuming and wipe the surface with white spirit.
Application
1. Stir thoroughly and test the colour on a small area.
2. Apply with a 4” brush, starting from the furthest corner and working along the grain of 1–2 boards at a time.
3. Allow 2 hours drying time between coats and apply 3 coats for best results.
4. Lightly sand with 240 grit sandpaper before the final coat, wipe clean, and apply the last coat.
5. Floor is ready for light foot traffic after 2 hours, furniture after 24 hours, and fully cured after 72 hours.
Aftercare
Cleaning
– After 72 hours, floors can be vacuumed and swept as normal.
– Remove dirt and grit regularly to prevent scratches and clean marks with a damp microfiber cloth.
– Clean brushes with warm soapy water.
Repairs
– Repair scratches or damage by lightly sanding and applying up to 3 coats.
– Alternatively, use a scratch repair kit for quick fixes.
