Data Sheets
illbruck ME480 Butyl Tape is a roll membrane with fire classification B‑s1, d0 to EN13501‑1, designed for high-performance sealing and protection. It consists of a laminate film with a modified butyl rubber adhesive layer, an aluminium foil finish, and a siliconised release liner. The membrane offers excellent UV resistance, flexibility across extreme temperatures, and non-staining adhesion to virtually all common substrates. Its high vapour resistance ensures superior water- and airtightness, while the adhesive layer remains durable without drying out.
Key Points
– Fire classification EN13501‑1: B‑s1, d0; complies with ADB requirements
– UV-resistant aluminium foil and butyl adhesive layer
– Flexible adhesive that does not dry out and is non-staining
– High vapour resistance for water- and airtight performance
Storage – Rolls must be stored lying flat and level, in dry and dust-free conditions between +5°C and +35°C
Shelf Life – 24 months when stored as recommended in original unopened packaging

Suitable for :
– Construction applications requiring high fire-retardant performance (e.g., buildings over 18 m)
– Provides permanent watertightness, airtightness, and compartmentalization
– Repairing vapour-impermeable joints and seals
– Bonds to most common building materials, including glass, steel, concrete, stone, wood, and aluminium
Preparation
– Ensure substrates are clean, grease-free, and free from contaminants that could affect adhesion.
– Substrates must be stable and free from loose parts.
– Remove obstructions and level out any rough surfaces.
– On highly porous surfaces (e.g., concrete, plaster) and ME480 overlaps, prime with ME901 Butyl & Bitumen Primer.
– To determine ME480 width for covering joints, allow the joint width plus 50 mm coverage on each side.
– For membrane overlap joints, provide a minimum of 25 mm cover.
Application
– Allow ME901 primer to dry for approximately 30 minutes before applying ME480.
– When using multiple layers, start from the bottom, overlapping additional layers to allow water run-off. For window perimeters, apply sill membrane first, then sides, and finally the head.
– Attach ME480 to the window frame with a bond width of 10–20 mm. Form corners first by cutting and folding, then apply membrane lengths between corners with a minimum 25 mm overlap. Consolidate bonding with a seam roller.
– Do not apply ME480 at temperatures below +5°C without special measures.
– Ensure a bonding area of at least 50 mm on either side of the joints and a minimum 25 mm overlap at all connections.
– Use a seam roller along the length of the membrane to consolidate the bond; strength will increase over time.
