SikaBond® SBR+ is a styrene-butadiene co-polymer used as an admixture, primer, bonding agent, and sealer for applications in areas subject to humidity, dampness, and water contact. It enhances the water resistance, durability, and flexibility of cementitious mixes for renderings, floor screeds, repairs, renovations, and general bonding, while also controlling density through its anti-foam properties. SikaBond® SBR+ can be used for concrete repair, external rendering, waterproofing and tanking, corrosion protection of steel, silage pit lining, screeds, renders, tiling primers, and as a flexibiliser for cement-based tile adhesives on wooden or asphalt floors. It offers excellent adhesion to steel, concrete, brick, tiles, glass, asphalt, wood, and expanded polystyrene, allows thinner applications, resists water, salt, chemicals, and frost, reduces surface dusting, prevents bleeding, improves toughness and flexibility, and maintains freeze-thaw stability between -15 °C and +20 °C.

Key Points:
– Multi-use polymer: admixture, primer, bonding agent, and sealer for humid, damp, or wet environments.
– Enhances durability, flexibility, water resistance, and corrosion protection in cementitious applications.
– Suitable for concrete repair, external rendering, screeds, tanking, tiling, and adhesive applications.
– Excellent adhesion, chemical and frost resistance, reduces dusting, prevents bleeding, and allows thinner applications.

– Used for concrete repair and external rendering.
– Suitable for waterproofing, tanking, and corrosion protection of steel.
– Functions as an admixture for mortar, screeds, and renders, as well as a bonding agent and primer/sealer in tiling applications; recommended for exterior use.
– Acts as a flexibiliser for cement-based tile adhesives, especially when tiling on wooden or asphalt floors.

LIMITATIONS
Similar to other SBR products, SikaBond® SBR+ is not suitable for coloured exterior decorative renders that will remain unpainted, as its poor UV resistance may lead to discoloration.

ECOLOGY, HEALTH AND SAFETY
Users must consult the latest Safety Data Sheets (SDS) before handling the product. The SDS provides guidance on safe handling, storage, disposal, and includes physical, ecological, toxicological, and other safety-related information.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

SUBSTRATE QUALITY / PRE-TREATMENT
Ensure all surfaces are sound, clean, and free of dirt, dust, flaking paint or render, and grease. Shake the SikaBond® SBR+ container well before use. Porous surfaces should be primed with 1 part SBR+ diluted with up to 3 parts water and allowed to dry. For concrete repair, brick slip, or tile fixing mortars, prepare surfaces to provide a suitable gripping profile.

MIXING
Mixing of screeds and toppings with SikaBond® SBR+ follows conventional procedures, replacing part of the gauging water with SBR+. Minimise mixing time to limit air entrainment and use a forced-action mixer. Pre-mix sand and cement, add SBR+, mix 1–3 minutes, then gradually add water to reach the desired consistency. Avoid over-adding water, which thins the mix due to the plasticising effect of SBR+. Typical 12 mm screed/topping mixes (by volume) are:

Material Screed Topping
O.P.C 1 1
Moist sand 3.5 1.75
3 mm Washed Granite 0 1.75
SBR+ 0.2 0.2
Water As required As required

APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS

PRIMING
A primer coat is necessary for maximum adhesion of screeds or toppings.

FLOORING APPLICATIONS
Adding SikaBond® SBR+ to floor screeds or toppings offers:

Low water:cement ratio for minimal delay before overcoating.

Reduced permeability to liquids.

Enhanced chemical, abrasion, and impact resistance, plus dusting resistance.

Thinner screeds with weight reduction, material savings, and excellent slip resistance.

SELECTION OF MATERIALS
Use high-quality materials to ensure optimum performance. Sand should be washed and sharp. Portland, High Alumina, and sulphate-resisting cements are compatible; cement must be fresh and cool, without air-set lumps. Coarse aggregates should be dust-free, and air-entraining agents should not be used.

POT LIFE
The mix has an approximate pot life of 30 minutes; batch sizes should be calculated accordingly.

APPLICATION
– Apply topping or screed onto a wet or tacky primer.
– Compact and level with a screed bar, finishing with a steel float. Work must be finished as the mix is laid.
– Cure toppings or screeds for 1–2 days using conventional techniques, starting curing quickly after application.

NOTES

– Joints in the screed or topping should align with background joints.
– Best applied at ambient temperatures below +25 °C.
– Avoid oleoresinous floor finishes if overcoating.
– If water repellants are present, consider using an epoxy primer instead of latex/cement primer.

CLEANING OF TOOLS
Clean tools immediately with water. Partially hardened mortar can be removed using white spirit and coarse wire wool, as SBR+ modified toppings and screeds adhere strongly when cured.
