BAL Max-Flex Fibre is a standard-setting, highly flexible tile adhesive developed with Fibre Strand Technology for improved strength and flexibility. Its lightweight rheology ensures smooth, consistent mixing and application, while an extended open time of over 40 minutes and a pot life of 5 hours allows larger areas to be fixed in a single mix. Suitable for walls and floors, BAL Max-Flex Fibre can be used with most tile types, including some natural stones, large format wall tiles, mosaics, heated screeds, areas of total immersion, and installations subject to limited movement or vibration, as well as tiling over existing glazed ceramic surfaces. Grouting can commence after 16 hours, making it an efficient and versatile adhesive for both domestic and commercial projects.

Use for
– Fixing ceramics, porcelain, and vitrified tiles, mosaics, certain natural stones, terrazzo, rigid foam insulating materials, and brick slips in dry or wet interior and exterior environments.
Note: Certain natural stones (e.g., limestone, marble, travertine, and some granite) may be prone to water staining. In such cases, use a BAL flexible rapid-setting white adhesive, such as BAL RAPID-FLEX ONE.
– Large format wall tiles and areas of total water immersion, such as swimming pools and showers.
– Installations subject to limited movement or vibration.
– Heated screeds.
– Tiling over existing glazed ceramic tiles.
Restrictions: NOT suitable for
– Metal, painted, or glass/metal tiles with water-sensitive coatings on the back.
– Plywood walls.
– Large format thin panels (up to 3m x 1m in size).
MIXING
1. Use a BAL MIXING BUCKET or other suitable container.
2. Add approximately 3.6 parts powder to 1 part clean cold water by weight (see table). Do not exceed the recommended water amount to avoid shrinkage or de-bonding.
3. Mix until a smooth, lump-free consistency is achieved.
4. Allow the adhesive to stand for 2 minutes, then re-mix for 30 seconds. If using an electric drill mixer, blend at slow speed (under 300rpm). Pot life at 20°C: approx. 2½ hours.
NOTE: Pot life and setting time may vary with temperature: higher temperatures shorten, lower temperatures extend.
APPLICATION/USAGE
– Do NOT use in temperatures below 5°C or in damp conditions.
Fixing Procedure
1. Apply adhesive to the wall or floor and comb to the required bed thickness, keeping ribs in one direction. Maximum bed thickness: 6mm.
– For large or patterned tiles, apply adhesive to the tile reverse.
2. For mosaics, use a rubber float to press into adhesive. For tiles, press firmly with a slight twisting motion for optimal contact.
3. Fix tiles before adhesive skins (approx. 40 minutes at 20°C). Remove and replace any adhesive that has started to set; do not add water.
4. Occasionally lift a tile to check full adhesive contact; leave no voids.
5. Leave adequate joints between tiles and install movement joints per BS 5385, Parts 1–5.
6. Clean off surplus adhesive from tile faces and joints before it dries.
Grouting
1. Wait a minimum of 16 hours (20°C) after fixing before grouting. Use BAL MICROMAX3 ECO GROUT or BAL ABSOLUTE GROUT.
– For paper-faced mosaics, pre-grout sheets, remove surplus, place in position, and tap down for full contact. Match sheet joints with mosaic tesserae. Wet and carefully remove paper before adhesive sets. Clean off surplus grout.
2. Fill movement joints with BAL MICROMAX SEALANT. Do NOT use on surfaces sensitive to acetic acids. For intermediate movement joints, consider epoxy-polysulphide sealant or pre-formed joint strips.
NOTE:
– For swimming pools, do not fill for at least 3 weeks after grouting (contact BAL Technical Advisory for advice).
– For showers, do not use for at least 2 weeks (per BS 5385: Part 4).
