Ronseal Wet Rot Wood Hardener 500ml is designed for use on soft, decaying wood affected by wet rot, where it penetrates deep into the fibres to strengthen and stabilise the material before filling or repainting; it is commonly applied to exterior and interior timber such as window frames, doors, skirting boards, and structural wood that has become spongy but is still largely intact. The product is brushed onto clean, dry (or slightly damp) wood after removing loose, crumbly material, allowing it to soak in and harden the surface, making it suitable for subsequent repair with fillers or coatings. However, its effectiveness is limited to early to moderate stages of decay and it cannot restore severely rotted or structurally compromised wood that has lost integrity and requires replacement; it also does not treat the underlying cause of moisture ingress, so unless the source of damp is addressed, rot may return. Additionally, it is not suitable for use on completely saturated timber, painted or sealed surfaces without preparation, or as a standalone structural repair solution.
