Sika® Black Jack®-905 All Weather Roof Coating is a solvent-based, full-bodied, black bitumen compound reinforced with fibres, designed for general waterproofing of roofs, guttering (non-plastic), and structural steelwork. It dries to a tough, durable black coating and is resistant to rain wash-off almost immediately, making it ideal for winter use. The product can be applied by brush to a wide variety of roof surfaces. This includes asphalt, built-up felt, concrete decks, cement sheeting, metal sheets (iron, steel, zinc, and lead), slates, and tiles. It may also be combined with rot-proof hessian or bitumen-coated glass fibre scrims for reinforcement and can function as a vapour barrier on walls and roofs.

Sika® Black Jack®-905 All Weather Roof Coating can be brush-applied to waterproof and restore a variety of roof surfaces, including:
– Asphalt roofs
– Built-up felt roofs
– Concrete roof decks
– Cement sheeting
– Metal sheeting such as iron, steel, zinc, and lead
– Slates and tiles
LIMITATIONS
– Do not apply to damp or wet areas; use Black Jack® Bitumen Roofing Emulsion instead.
– Avoid areas with subsequent solvent contact or in silage pits.
– Allow adequate drying time between coats.
– Avoid inhalation of vapours in confined spaces.
– The product may bleed through other paints; use a primer recommended by the paint manufacturer and always test compatibility.
– This product does not replace a DPC; it should be used alongside one.
– Gloss, oil-based, or alkyd paints must not be applied directly over Sika® Black Jack®-905.
– Users are responsible for determining suitability; contact Technical Services if unsure.
ECOLOGY, HEALTH AND SAFETY
Read the latest Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Follow all guidance on safe handling, storage, and disposal.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
– Ensure all surfaces are dry, sound, and free from dirt, dust, grease, or loose debris.
– Inspect the roof structure; repair or replace broken, slipped, or missing tiles, slates, sheets, and fill cracks in felt or asphalt.
– Remove green growth using Sika® Mouldbuster.
– Do not coat roof lights, windows, or translucent sheets.
APPLICATION
Asphalt Roofs
– Heat and smooth blisters; remove and replace crumbling areas.
– Apply two coats of Sika® Black Jack®-905, allowing the first coat to dry before the second.
Built-Up Felt Roofs
– Remove loose chippings and prepare surface.
– Fill defects wider than 0.75 mm with Black Jack®-903 Bitumen Trowel Mastic and allow to dry.
– Open, clean, and tack down blisters with the coating; apply glass fibre membrane and further coating as needed.
Reinforced Concrete
– Allow new decks to cure; prime with Black Jack® Bitumen & Flashing Primer at 4–6 m²/L.
Lightweight Concrete
– Cure concrete and screed, partially bond glass fibre felt with Sika® Black Jack®-905, lap and seal edges, then apply the coating and membrane.
Cement Sheeting
– Ensure sheets are dry; apply two coats at 1 m²/L, allowing the first coat to dry before the second.
Metal Surfaces
– Remove loose rust; treat with Zinc Phosphate Primer if required. Apply two coats at 1.25 m²/L.
Slates and Tiles
– Repair and refix any damaged or loose slates/tiles Apply coating and glass fibre membrane.
All Weather Roof Coating and Scrim Treatments
– Use with reinforcing membrane for bridging gaps, cracks, or decayed areas.
– Apply first coat at 1 m²/L, embed the membrane while wet, lap 50–75 mm, and apply a second coat.
– Extend treatment at walls/parapets 150 mm vertically and secure with self-adhesive flashing.
Final Surface
– Apply a solar reflective finish with Black Jack®-907 to protect the coating and roof structure.
– Optional: blind with 1–20 mm stone chippings or sand while tacky, or apply solar reflective coating after 3 days to 2 weeks.
Vapour Barrier
– Apply two coats (first at 1 m²/L, second at 1.25 m²/L) on the warm side of flat roof decks before installing insulation to prevent condensation.
CLEANING OF TOOLS
Clean tools immediately with Sika® Wonder Wipes or white spirit. Wipe off any spillage before the bitumen sets.
